i have a 2002 7.3 lariat crewcab. I am completeing my mods this weekend. I have my DP-Tuner and Valve Body from BTS ready to put in. So my Question is this.. IF my truck (stock) has 275 hp then when i add the DP-Tuner i will have this 60 hp tow = 335 HP 80 hp econo = 355 and 120 race =395 hp when combined witht he stock 275 hp. So is this correct for the HP? or is the math different than just adding them together. Also are these HP settings safe with the vavle body upgrade? When I ordered the DP-Tuner they told me to order the BTS Valve body pre set to the tuner. So I hope it will be safe to run without to much worry. I do understand that the tranny is the weak leak here so I wont be pushing the limit to often with the tunes. Any input would help Jeff
Thing with HP #'s is they'll vary a little truck to truck. All kinds of little things, exhaust, intake, whatever, can make small improvements or changes in how the numbers come out. Your math sounds fine at the flywheel. Then you have driveline loss. If you really want to know a number, dyno it.
Thats what I ended up doing. I know what you mean, the curiosity alone can drive you a little nutty even if you don't actually care what the number is. You can look at my sig to see the bulk of the setup. I dyno'd 326 and 665 on the 80 econo tune, at the wheels. Conservatively, if driveline loss is only 20% (it's probably a little more) then the flywheel is more like 407/831
I think the factory says stock with an auto tranny you're more like 235. But dont worry, the 80 econo is going to give you more than 80. Your VB will be fine. You'll like that better than stock.
the factory HP rating of 275 is measured at the crank shaft (flywheel), so, actualy your factory numbers are lower at the rear wheel by 30 to 45 hp i have read, then depending on gear ratio and tire size also shows a difference on the dyno. its all up in the air untill you roll on the dyno.
to help, i posted a desk top dyno on another thread, you must have your truck weighed, then run the quater mile to see what the max speed is, and there it will convert your speed vs weight and give you a pretty close guestimate of RWHP.
My truck with my mods on stock power setting made 209ish hp, and about 440tq. i think. But with my mods and a TS performance chip on 140, on 37" tires, i made 309hp and 602tq. But now i have a DPtuner that feels a hell of a lot stronger, im guessing 320hp and 650ish tq, but im getting some other mods that should put me at 350ish and 700ish by the time that dyno days rolls around.
