Exclamation DP Tuner Decisions

Heres the deal. My girl wants to buy something for me for my truck and was asking me all about the dp tuner that I wanted. You can see my mods in my sig. What do you think about this idea:

F5 Chip:

EX multichanger (Blue)
Pos 0: No Start
Pos 1: Stock
Pos 2: 80hp Econ
Pos 3: 8hp Tow
Pos 4: 120 Race

What do you guys think?

Im runnin superchips right now because i didnt want to drive a stock tune until I could afford to get the DP. From what I hear, even the 80E tune will blow a superchips performance tune out of the water. Also, I was wondering if I should get a 60 tow or an 80 tow. I dont to a lot of towing, but i figured might as well get the 80 for added torque. Also, I know the F6 is more conveniant when it comes to getting upgraded tunes via email. But I know that I wont be getting my stage 2 sticks and new D66 turbo for a while and an extra $200 isnt really in the cards right now. - I'll be needing new wheels and tires before I get any other performance upgrades after this one.

I dont see guages, that is a must! If you want a smoke tune you may want to get the 140 aggressive too, everyone loves a smoke show. I dont do much towing either so I didnt get any tow tunes, I figured I can just use stock for that so I dont over work anything anyways. I wouldnt recomend getting the 60economy because I seen a decrease in mpg with that from the 80e all hwy. Looks like a good list youve got going, my tunes are in my sig.

Like John said, guages is a must have....If I had to choose it would be
0-no start
1 stock
2 60 tow ( i tow a 9000 lb camper with this tune)
3 80 econ with the throttle backed off the first 25% (wont snap your neck when you take off)
4 100 preformance (really cant tell that much between this and 120 r except my egts are higher with 120r)

How much weight are you towing? I talked to Jody before I got mine, he is very helpful and will give you some recommendations based on what your needs are. I tow 18,000 lb 5th wheel and Jody said the 60tow would be best for that. You are correct that you will see major gains in the 80e compared to your superchips. Might also suggest you get the decel tune if you have a auto trans.

X2 on the gauges though, really need to keep an eye on the temps after you tune. Anyway, FWIW, here is how mine is set up

0: no start
1: modified stock
2: decel
3: 60 tow
4: drive thru
5: 80 econ
6: 120 race
7: high idle 1200 ebpv closed
8: high idle 1500
9: low fuel

Oh, forgot to ad... If your girl is gonna get this for you, make sure you hold on to that one, definitely a keeper, haha. Good luck bro, more will chime in with their .02. Like I said too, give Jody a call, he is super helpful and won't steer you in the wrong direction, or try to push something on you that you don't need

Before I got my tunes I talked to James at DP and he had me send him an email of all things that were done to my truck and what I use it for and he sent me an email back with his recomindations on what tunes I might want/need and then I added a couple This may be the rought you want to go too.

Bryce,
I have the F5 in my truck, and although it is a stick, if you are around ellensburg I could easily give you a ride in it so you can see the difference between the tunes. Let me know if youre interested. Pretty sure ive seen your truck around lately, looks good man!

With out guages don't go over 40T. Jody told me that a long time ago. I never put in the PCM I ordered from him and then bought the F5 years later. I love it! But I do have gauges. One more thing. I went on my first long distance trip to Tech day in Morgan Hill after I put on my 17 moded HPOP, you have the early 99 you need this. I gained on the way there, 1.7 MPG over the stock set up I had with setting on 80e cruise control set at 78mph. I ran many times with this setting but first time sence the HPOP. It makes a difference. When somebody pulls next to you when you come on a semi just hit the gas and right around an infront of those who don't want you to pass. I never had that kind of power with this dp tuner at those speeds before the HPOP. It jumps into the 90's right now to pass. And like said above keep that gril if shes behind you with these mods.
You can buy this from Clay, fare price and not bad install either.

haha ya i think i'll keep her. shes behind me on these mods and smokin hot as well.

Im not towing at all usually. But on rare occasion I will. nothing too heavy. think i should get the 60tow or 80tow? And yes, I know I need gauges in a bad way. I have the pillar pod already (two hole) and want to get autometer cobalts (boost and pyro). maybe since my girl is getting together with some family and a friend to buy this tuner, I should just man up and buy a pyro for myself. I'll call jody now and see what he says

I believe that's the best route, give the tuner a call & let them know what you use the truck for.

Your welcome bud
I was told with stock inj & HPOP 100hp is about all you'll get & you do have the e-99, but some of the stuff you can ask. Good luck bud

I have exactly what you listed in your first post, but on a Ts style chip and it works well for me. I tow everyday in my 80e and when I tow my dump trailer (short distances around town) I use my 80tow. Fully loaded it is 16k and I don't have any problems with it. I watch my gauges though. I don't think you need the 60tow, but if you are going to tow anything at all you need a tranny gauge. The stock one never moves after warm up. The tranny can be at 250 (scorched) and you would never know it.

They say you will never see full potential of the tune with stock inj and HPOP, however I can say that even with stage I injectors, my buddies 140 extreme feels a hell of a lot more powerful than my 120 race. Having said that, I am happy with my setup so far, sort of do wish I had added the 140 just for "countermeasures"

One day when I can shell out the dough and hook up with Jody for a live tune, that problem will be quickly solved though.

Again, hate to keep repeating but talk to the source is the best route. James or Jody will get back to you asap and they will definitely steer you in the right direction
