Since having my CPS recall done, i have been having a internitent stalling issue while driviing about once a day or more. I put my spare new black CPS in and had the same issue. I have added dielectric grease tot he plug changed oil and fuel filters. Cleaned my EBPV and am still having the scary experience of complete shutdown at hiway speeds with an Auto trans, no brakes and tough steering. I am lost as to where to start now. I may have to take it to the Stealer, most smaller shops here won't touch it. Someone mentioned a simular issue about a CPU causing a simular issue? Thanks again for your much required help.
Do you have any dash lights that flash? Does your check engine light stay on after it restarts? Does it always start back up right away?
There have been some stories about problems with the CPS' from the recall. Is your black one a Ford brand or aftermarket? There are even more stories about bad aftermarket CPS units.
Since it all seems to have started with the CPS have you checked the pins inside the plug for damage, or traced the wires going to the CPS? Maybe someone yanked on the wires and damaged the plug or pulled a wire loose somewhere.
The aftermarket CPS is Niehoff, black /gold. The Check engine light comes on once it stalls. Once the monster is manhandled over to the side of the road it restarts and shows no SES light. Today it did not restart right away on the first cycle of the key, just like a typical CPS failure. I have inspected visually, the cps harness and conector pins. My next step may be to remove it for a closer look. My local dealership does not have my trust after me arguing with them about the recall existing, thanks again to the help on this forum. I was reimbursed at a diffrent out of town dealership, for a cps failure last year, they paid for the tow recipt too wich was good.
I reinstalled my black cps tonight and changed the #32 relay around in hopes of a simple fix. Started it up ,backed out of the shop and she stalled again at idle in park?
Now i will have to take it in somewhere? I do know the service manager at the out of town dealership and may go that route? Thanks again for the suggestions
I had the recall and I have no problems. If nothing else, go to the dealer and buy another CPS 27.00 and see if that is the problem. May be a lot less then driving many miles with the fuel at this price.
If you want to diagnose the problem on your own, buy a copy of Auto Enginuity, install it on your laptop. Then go drive it around, datalogging until it stalls.
The check engine light will come on, on any vehicle if the engine stalls out, code or not. It's just letting you know that it's working at that point. Key on, Engine off, the light is supposed to illuminate.
