Alternate fuel

I was wondering if any one is using vegetable oil in there truck? A buddy of mine told me to go to greasecar.com and check it out. I was wondering if it gives you the same power as diesel fuel or if you can even tell a difference. Also is this harder on your truck and does it make them smoke more. Also if I go on a trip can I run straight diesel fuel in my truck if I am 2 far from home to get vegetable oil? I guess I am looking for the Pros and Cons of doing this. Also this might not even be true but I was talking to a guy on another forum Monday night and he said that his buddy works for some dealer ship and is using tranny fluid to run his truck. He didn't go into allot of detail because somebody else said the running tranny fluid is illegal. I was wondering if this is true or just some BS story. As always thanks for your guy's help.

You can run straight VO (vegetable oil) in your truck. Depending on where you are, you probably are going to want to do a few mods to it. Mostly a heating element to keep it from waxing or gelling up when it gets cold. It willl smoke less and be down on power a bit. You can switch back and forth between diesel and VO, it shouldn't be a problem. I would, however keep a spare fuel filter on hand in case the VO (which can have detergent effect) knocks anything loose in the beggining. I wouldn't touch used tranny fluid in my truck but thats just me.

There is a SVO forum here and you will get more informed answers to your questions there.

There is another one that I used to post on a little bit that I can't find right now. When I do I will post it for you.

P.S. - The 66 is my absolute favorite Chevelle, followed very closely by the 69.

probably look at the Alt fuels section, but check this site out its a GREAT Sytem for our trucks. I have burn oil for over a year now and its paid for it self. sure makes road trips more cost effective

http://www.dinofuelalternatives.com/

Happy reading and good luck. but remember its not for everyone. you need place to store, filter and hold your oil. then picking up a good source.

MTDewX, have you noticed any power loss since you have been running the vegetable oil? I think that Jason mentioned it above. Just wondering what someone who has been running it for a while says about that.

well for the most part I did not buy the truck for HP. I bought this truck with the intent to convert. plus its a great motor to say the least. I have kept the truck pretty much stock for the most part. I have added 4" exhaust, AIS and got a diablo for reading codes and run it as of now in the 60 hp program till I get DP. (milking my tranny as long as I can) but I really don't notice any loss in power. I don't tow very often and its not a lot when I do. if you get it set up right I don't think you will be disapointed when you stop for a pee break instead of gas.
Jason at the dino site I posted above is pretty sweet sytem. I have actually seen one in a truck. very clean and refined and very user friendly on operation.
hope this helps.
have you contacted Jason by chance?

also, I am about to add a new turbo (re-built stocker with WW) and new boots and EBV delete, and the master-wastegate Comliments from DIESELSITE . so I am sure I will be noticing an imporvement VO or not.

and I dont really gauge mileage any more. I just know I can get 800 miles or so on my in bed (roughly 73 gal) tank with some left over. then of course the 55 gal drums full of oil to fill it back up for the trip home.

So I take it that you yourself do not have the dino fuels system? I have not contacted them, but I have looked at their website. This is something that I may get into in the future so i'm just trying to get info really. I'm not really into going for big horsepower either. I'm going to be getting a DP Tuner here in the next month or so, after I get an exhaust. I'm really just trying to look at all of the options. Thanks for your insight.

no problem, I have part of his sytem type of thing. I had a lot of help from a friend that is now a dealer of his system. that is why I got to see an install and operation recently.
he now has a V3 (Version) that is pretty darn cool. mine is more like the self installed system with my buddy doing the design part, wiring and making my tank. which helped me BIG TIME. you can also do some reading on Frybrid.com also.
But I think Jason's V3 system is the best for the FOrds, cause that is what he specialized in and drives him self.

there is actually an aricle in the latest Diesel world mag. with him in it. page 62. but its all on his site too.

Good luck and happy reading
