I am one happy ford truck forum user ! but first yes i have replaced the CPS actually twice and filled the connector with die electric sealant but HKusp mentioned something about a poor seal on a replaced windshield and i had a hunch . . . I looked at the door seals on both sides of the truck and the drivers side vertical pillar was different than the passenger side. The seal that runs along the top of the doors is supposed to be tucked under the windshield seal trim but the drivers side seal was resting on top of the windshield trim which was allowing water to run down the door jam. I then looked under the dash and saw a water line where water had seeped on the interior next to the fuse box and allong the wiring harness. So when it rained and wipers were on the water was channeled under the seal and ran into the wires. So i used seal adhesive and seated the seal and recently drove in the rain with wipers on full and had no issues ! i was on the last straw, two CPS and hours of chasing wires and ringing out for shorts and turns out i honestly think i found the solution ! Helpful notes i have a habit of grabbing the pillar to get in the truck and it seems that this pulled the seal out of place. Lesson, especially if you have a gauge cluster pillar keep your hands off the damn seals! Its raining real steady outside and had a 20 minute drive to classes and both ways to and from in the rain with wipers on presented no problems . . . I am confident and hope that anyone with a similar issue gives the unobvious ideas some consideration
Thanks for your help also but ohio is under a flood warning for heavy rain and ive taken this oppurtunity to drive around and try the fix and no problems what so ever !
Intermittent Wiper Use stalls my 1999 F250 7.3 Diesel
Every time I use the intermittent wipers my truck stalls. I have talked to a mechanic and he says I need a wiring schematic for the truck. Anyone know where I can get one? For two years I have tried to get my husband to fix this and I am now ready to just do it myself.
It is CPS (crank position sensor). Your truck most likely has an aftermarket one purchased from a local parts store. Go to your ford dealer & buy an OEM one from them for around $25 & that will fix your problem.
I 2nd that, tried an aftermarket CPS once and it did the same thing. It is a pretty common issue with the aftermarket CPS units. Easy to change also. Just need a 10mm socket and short extension.
In the past we have also determined that a loose or dirty ground for the windshield wipers can allow the wiper motor to cause enough electrical "hash" to get the CPS signal to the PCM "confused". When that happens, to prevent engine damage, it causes the engine to die.
I wish more women would take that initiative lol. Actually just one more. The one I'm responsible for...
Anyway, try to clean the grounds like springer pop said, and if that doesn't work, replace the CPS with a ford one. Aftermarket ones are more susceptible to interference.

I did have the CPS replaced at a FORD dealership under a recall. Now that you mention it that is when this problem started. I have found a wiring diagram for a 2002 and will locate my grounds using this. Thanks, I was really hoping after replacing a sensor or something to be able to wrap another old part and give it to him for his birthday. I may just go and get a new CPS and replace it. I understand they are not that difficult to do.
