Not a good night. Somehow I've misplaced my only pickup key to my 1997 F150 Ford Supercab. Does anyone know what the dealer would need to get one cut? I would think the VIN number and the Title (as proof of ownership). Thanks for any help!
When I tried to get one they wanted drivers license, title and registration, and of course the VIN. Problem was I was locked out and couldn't get the registration so was SOL.
When my keys failed their float test a while back I called a locksmith and he got the code from the dealer and cut the key. Once the locksmith showed up I was required to show my ID and tell him where the registration was, once he verified that the information matched he called the dealer and gave me the key and the code from the dealer in case I ever needed another key cut.
I would think common since would put the registartion in the vehicle. Just what i would think. I would expect to deal with something as last splash did. Have the locksmith unlock the vehicle, make sure that everything matches up, and then give you the keys and the key code. Just what i would expect to happen.
Actually it's BS to have to call a locksmith, Pay them $100 or more when you could just go to the dealerships service department show some ID and they cut the key. But then my niece did have her registration.
I have 2 keys that's always with me my Truck key and my tool locker at work. I keep them in my wallet. But then I'm one of those people who always has their wallet it's just a habit.
Don't you have an issurance card in your billfold? That has you VIN number and you DL has your picture, you wouldn't need anything else?? Unless you found the key!!! Then you would need anything, common sense tells me...........
I have a locksmith showing up tomorrow morning bright and early to cut me a key. I talked to my local Ford dealership today and they said that Ford "does not" keep key code information past 10 yrs. He ran my VIN and verified that the key code information is not available for my truck....figures. It will be interesting to see how the locksmith generates the key. I'll post more tomorrow as the saga continues. Estimated cost for the key is $95.
Dude, sounds like a novel here.. hope all turns out well. I have invested in a hide-a-key box. I had to grind off the key ring part for it to fit in it, but it's there if I need it. I have a 97XLT, which is just the standard key (no chip) so that works for me.....
