I've been looking around for a good truck forum to join and I've gotten a number of my questions answered by searching the site. Thought I would join and get some other questions answered. I also wouldn't mind sharing my project.
I've been working on my F150 4x4 over the past 10 years. Always seems something pops up and gets in the way of getting it back on the road. Anyway, 10 years ago I plopped a 390ci into my '79 F150. Wasn't long before I had a few issues and the motor needed to be pulled and rebuilt. I've done everything I can to the engine to increase its performance. The block, push rods, and crank are the only pieces that are still original to the engine. It sits in the engine bay now and awaits a final few parts until I can turn the engine over.
I've put on an MSD Offroad 6 box, Offroad Rev Limiter, Blaster Coil, and Pro Billet Distributor. The installation is pretty straight forward. Since I've replaced nearly every item, I've decided to replace the starter and alt. with PowerMaster components. That got to me thinking, will I still need the voltage regulator? I hope that the answer becomes more clear once I see the wiring diagram for the alt. and starter, because the engine bay has been apart for so long that I can't remember what wires go where. So the starter soliniod and voltage regulator have me at a loss for the moment of how this new system will integrate itself.
The original engine was a 300 ci straight 6. A great engine, but I wanted more power and torque.
I hate to get off topic but that diagram is great....you dont happen to have an ignition set up diagram on hand do ya?! please say yes!
Ive got a 65 with a 302...HEI Distro...havent picked the alternator yet...not sure which is the best to get. any recommendations? I figured anything from the year range.
The alternator came in today and I'm looking forward to installing it. This is a one wire alternator. So I'm just going to hook this up to the bat. side of the solenoid. What impact, if any, will this have on the voltage regulator?
