They are all the same tranny from early '99 to '03 (4R100). They went to a newer 5 speed torque shift with the new 6.0L engines.

Any idea if a torque shift will bolt to the 7.3 or is the bolt pattern different?

From what i've read, the torque shift "could be" mounted up, but all the electronics, programming and so on doesn't make it worth it. Do a BTS transmission and don't ever worry about it again.

Do a John Wood or BTS Transmission and call her good. They both seem pretty darn good to me so I would go to whoever is closer.

The bolt pattern is different, but even if you could adapt it, how would you make it shift? The computer in the truck certainly can't operate a TorqShift, and the computer for the TorqShift also needs to be controlling the engine, and there isn't a computer compatible with a TorqShift and a 7.3L.

I guess you would need to run dual processors...

This is why I ask questions a lot! Just being curious, my truck already has a rebuilt trans so hopefully I won't ever be needing to put one in.

How would you make that work? The TorqShift processor needs to be controlling an engine to control the trans.

Can a guy even get an aftermarket 5 speed auto for our older trucks at all? Im sure it would be pretty costly if we could, but that would be pretty awesome.

To me, "pretty awesome" is a $4000 BTS that Brian dares you to break. And if you do, he'll fix it. Why spend twice as much if you can get this kind of tranny & service at $4k??

Just because i would love to see how that fifth gear affects things!

Dont get me wrong i have no problem with a tranny that someone dares me to break, but I would love to se how a 5 speed auto would differ, then the 4 speed in my truck.

Yeah, it would be nice, but it would be a huge challenge making one work. Go try out a D-max or a 6.0. Not that big of a deal having the extra gear, IMHO. But then again, I don't tow heavy either. I'm thinking in that case, the 5th gear makes a much bigger difference.
