just bought a new delta chip from street smart design for my 2.5 L 98 ford ranger. install was very straight forward and easy. my first ? is - i got the chip with the l.e.d switch and the instruction claim that the light is off for no chip, green for tune one and red for tune two.... well mine is light off, light green and then on next posistion the light is green again what gives??? another question is i felt minimal horspower gains... like maybe 5-10 horspower but i ran it on regular cause i had a full tank upon time of install ... will premium make the difference here?? i also took down a deserted road by my house and pegged the speedometer but could still feel the truck cutting out around 98ish... they said it would raise my speed governor any ideas on this... think this is all my ? for now so if any knows id really like to know before i return it or ask for it to be reflashed!!! thanky you so much
I can't comment on all your questions, but there are a couple that I can. First, horsepower gains on a gas engine don't really go up like they do for a diesel with just a chip and considering the displacement of the engine your using, that will be the case for sure. Premium would help if your tune tweaks the engine to make full use of the timing with the premium fuel. You might get another 10 hp if your able to yolk the premium fuel but like I said it depends on the tune and if it's designed to work off premium. The other questions I can't even begin to answer.
yes it had a warning to use premium but its an adjustible chip... it comes with a swith to choose between chip off... light off , tune one 87 octane ... light green, and tune two 93 octane ... light red. thats why i thought the octane may be a problem... but the other thin like i mentioned wes that in the last two switch posistion it should be green then red my is green then green again so im not sure if im even accessing tune two witch calls for premium

Was there another model of that same chip that had the light green for the second flip? If not then I would hazard a guess(I don't know for sure) that it is accessing the one for premium fuel and I would try that for a tankfull and see what happens. Worse that it would do is no net gains, running that fuel isn't going to hurt the truck(hurt the wallet for sure).
