Potential valvetrain problem

I have a 69 bronco with a 351 windsor in it. Im trying to figure out an idle problem. Im thinking I have some valvetrain problems. It has a rough spot in the idle. its pretty consistant. Whats a good way to check? should I just pull the valve cover and watch?

A little too vague. Symptoms? Noise?

I dont hear any strange noise at all. it just has a rough spot, or stumble in the idle. It wanted to bogg down and eventually die. I turned the idle up a tick and it doesnt want to die anymore....

I'm thinking vaccum leak as well. Check all your hose ends to make sure they are tight and look for cracks in the hoses. Sometimes you can pull them and plug the end of the tube you pulled them off of and locate the problem. If no problems are found spray your intake manifold with carb cleaner around the outside edge and if the motor changes speed you have a gasket leak. Ditto for the throttle body of the carb, paticularly at the throttle shafts. Another thing to check ( and this is easy), pop your hood with the engine running at night, you may have 2 wires cross firing, which will be easy to see in the dark.

I do have a oil leak at the front of the manifold. I have re-installed it twice now. Both mating surfaces are free of blemishes and I use a high quality silicone. I suppose if oils getting out air is getting in......
