is this a valvetrain problem
hello i have an 81 f100 with a 300 and a 303 3 spd. tranny. yesterday it started to tap around the inspection cover and possibly the valve cover/head region.no smoke, just tapping. i thought it may be a lifter or something. today it started to misfire and at idle there is oil smoke, when it is not at idle there is no smoke. there is no blowby. the oil is golden and does not smell like gas, so i do not think it is the rings. i pulled the plug wires one by one and the noise did not go away so i do not thing the rod bearings are bad. anybody think i have a stock or bent valve, possibly a bad lifter or bent pushrod. i can go 70 plus mph on a 3 speed manual tranny and it has not blown up yet. i really think it has something to do with the valvetrain.
