last night, I turned on my dome light, turned it back off, and them back on and it stopped working. I thought I had blown a fuse or bulb but, both are good. I have power at the fuse but none to the lamp socket. Does this sound like the light switch itself is bad? Thanks, Cliff
It looks good. I probed the wiring that goes to it and there is no power. I dont have a wiring diagram but, the only thing that I can think of between the fuse and the lamp is the headlamp switch, except for the wiring, of course.
Yea it's probably your headlight switch. I had the same problem with mine there is a rehostat on the switch that when you turn the **** all the way to the left it makes a contact in the switch itself to turn on the light. Most likely the rehostat is bad or the contact itself is corroded and you might be able to clean it to fix it but if it's like mine was when I actually took the switch out it sorta fell apart in my hand. You can replace it at Autozone or Advance auto cheap though luckily it's one of the few things for our trucks they do have in stock. I think mine cost me about 12 bucks I guarrante that if you replace this it will fix your problem. Hope this helps ya out. Later
Here is an update for anyone that might have this issue. I replaced the headllamp switch ($12.00) and the dome light still did not work so, I started doing wire to wire testing. Found that it was a dirty contact at the fuse box for the dome light. When I checked power to the fuse, I had power at both ends of the fuse but, none at the metal contact that the fuse snaps into. Removed the fuse, cleaned the terminal, and the dome light works like a charm. Sometimes, we forget the basics.....
Hey sorry about that Fitch didn't mean to make you spend money you didn't need too. I guess I should have told you to go there first. I just know that when I got my truck the dome light didn't work at all and I know that when I replaced my switch with a new one that fixed it. Mine was basically doing the same thing yours was doing and I had already replaced the fuse as well so I thought it had to be your switch. sorry again for the bad advice. But hey at least you got a new switch out of it all LOL
