managed thermactor air-head
My 81 F250 has a 77 block and heads which don't seem to allow for the mta air injection into the exhaust ports. (on the rear of the heads) I need to pass california emmisions.
Which heads may I consider for ease and efficiency of swapinging? It would be nice to swap them problem free and readily available.
If you have an M-block (351M/400) engine, the Thermactor pump should send air into the large port on top of the right front of the intake manifold. All Thermactor and EGR plumbing is integral to the intake manifold on all M-block engines.
M-block engines never used rear head ports for the Thermactor system, like the 302/351W did.

Both the intake manifold and block are cast with D7TE (intake=D7TE-9425-SA). There's eight bolts on the valve covers, waterneck and distributor are off the block with the intake manifold rising about an inch behind the distributor. From what i've learned on this forum, that would make it the 351m.
I've found a plugged hole in the intake manifold behind the distributor...this must be what I'm looking for. Do you imply that the 77 manifold was fitted the same way (or similar enough) as the 81 for the thermactor air injection? This would make things easier than I had hoped.

Yep, the M series were all plumbed for emissions that way. BTW that engine could just as easily be a 400. The only way to tell is to check the stroke.
