Well, i'm in Iraq so it's kinda tough for me to troubleshoot this but my wife just told me that she overshot the driveway a little bit and slid into the yard some. We have about 27" of snow in the yard so she got stuck. She switched to 4x4 and when she gave it gas she heard a loud clunk. the 4x4 works but she said when it is in 4x4 there is a rubbing sound. Anybody heard this? I'm thinking U jount or hub maybe? she said it drives fine in 2wd, dodesn't shift wierd or anyhting. Any ideas where to have my brother in law start looking?
Mu hunch is that she flipped it to 4x4 and gave it a fair amount of gas before it had a chance to engage the 4x4 and the loud clunk was it engaging under torque.
I agree with you on the clunk sound, she probably gased it too soon. As for the rubbing, since she went off the driveway and got stuck, I'd check for a bent heat shield that might be rubbing on the front driveshaft. I'd have the wife drive it while the brother in law walks beside it to figure out where the sound is coming from.
By the way, really appreciate all that you guys do and sacrifice. Thank You
My 03 used to always clunk shifting into 4x4. The dealer replaced the front splines (still under waranty thank goodness). Now it is so quiet I can't tell if it has shifted or not.
