P.S. Just wanted to say thanks to X_Hemi_Guy for the discount promo code!
I installed mine in about 2 hours. Would have actually been faster had I not had jack issues!
I installed mine the night BEFORE leaving on a ~2000 mile trip!
Since your Ex is a 2000...the hardest part may be breaking the U-Bolt nuts free...I had a long breaker bar and there was NO problems there.
Remember that the first part of the install you will need to jack by the axle to support that while you unbolt the U-Bolts and install the bracket under the U-Bolt plate.
Then you will need to put jack stands under the FRAME and let the axle HANG unsupported to properly pre-tension the RAS.
I also used loc-tite on the U-Bolt nuts when re-tightening...
It really was a very simple install...but it depends on how adventurous you are...as doing any work the night before really leaves no room for the unexpected!
Good luck and glad I could help on the code...although it looks like we all paid WAY more than X-Stangs link!...oh well...after experiencing the ride improvement...I know it was worth the price!
joe.
Mark Moore will be the first we know of that tries the RAS BEFORE the Hellwig...I have high hopes that the RAS will be a single item that improves much about the Ex!...we'll see.
Good luck with the RAS...it has done wonders for my towing characteristics on my Ex...THANKFULLY I have NO complaints and I roll down the road at 17,000#'s combined with the Ex and can tow 12+ hour days and NOT be mentally exhausted from the experience...a PLEASURE to tow with this setup...those that are fighting an ill handling Ex...need to try the RAS...especially at $100!!!
Please report back on your experiences...and if you have any questions on the install...I've posted photos of my install...
BTW...have you considered joining us in Gatlinburg in July for the Ex/SD rally?...
joe.
I get lots of great info and ideas here and will be happy to post my results. my chance to return the favor in some way.
the x rally does sound like fun, i really haven't given it much thought though. Gatlinburg might be a little far for us this year...hmmm
I paid $252... Look out JC Whitney, RAS is on it's way back! Well, maybe not. I could go head and install what I have, buy the ones from ebay, then when they arrive, ship them to JC Whitney and get my refund
Mine arrived today and hopefully I'll get them installed this weekend.
What do you think "RAS Joe"?
I'm ready to "buy it now" if Joes says go!
Ford Trucks for Ford Truck Enthusiasts
If I needed one today with all I now know...I'd buy the one off Ebay for $100!!!
FWIW...they updated the barrel bolt area to make initial pre-tensioning slightly easier on the user...you can still pre-tension is the important part...
Again...the update is from what I have heard from Roadmaster is simply a install feature improvement and NOT a performance improvement feature.
I had mentioned the different versions previously because there were sellers selling the older version for the SAME prices...and in those cases why NOT get the NEWER version...
in this case...well it's an easy decision!..."BUY NOW"!!!
joe.

Problem with the promo code... I type it in and it shows the discount applied... then when I type in my password for PP it says there has been a problem with the transaction and it won't go through. I tried to find a back door to PP and I was able to... but when I tried to update my purchase with the code, I'd hit pay and a message that the discount can't be used with PP? What gives?
05ex604x4, how did you apply the discount code?
The biggest problem for me was working space... I had maybe about 3 inches to rotate the rachet when preloading the spring.
I took it for a short test drive and performed sime aggressive soloms (sp?) and could tell a difference. The rear tracked right long and felt firmer and not as 'loose/squishy'.
We have our first camping trip in a few weeks and that will be the real test.

Did you measure your rear height before and after? I am curious how much it raised your rear.
