Hey a poll sounds fun, but being the artistically challenged type I'll take anything I can get.

I took the wife, daughter and her boyfriend to the auto show this afternoon (45 min highway one way) and was able to hear every word they said . I guess there was something to be said for that drone. I think I'm gonna paint it black tomorrow to see how it looks.

If anyone has any suggestions on things I should do differently I'm still open to suggestions.

Thanks for the kind words so far.

Chris- I have two suggestions: (1) make a small piece to cover the spot you cut out for m/c clearance and (2) make a second one and send it to me

To get the clearance I wanted I actually have the master cylinder protruding slightly into the box. You can see in Ron's set up with the smaller filter his box angles in to avoid the master. I figure I can always use some of that foam weatherstripping to seal the gap. Of some duct tape in honor of Gene.

I planned on tracing the box side, back and bottom out on graph paper and scanning it in for anyone who wants to try this them self.

The cardboard idea mentioned earlier might be a good way for you to chase down your drone problem. I would think the putting a sheet between the filter and cab would make the most difference, but maybe the side needs to be added too. It might at least give you an idea of how to tackle your problem.

Sounds good. Like I said, looks great thus far. Any idea if I could adapt your design to the stock battery tray?

I don't see why not. You might need a "Z" shaped bend in the bottom to get up and over the battery tray bottom but that's no big deal. We're just talking about 2 more bends. If you left the rails that extend from the battery tray to under the old air box then we're just talking about shortening the sides down for the elevated bottom.

You nailed it. I'll be watching for a "finalized" version. The loss of drone has me intrigued!

If you send me a sketch of the pieces and the dims I can make a drawing in Autocad of them. I'll put it into a plot file and anyone could take it to an engineering store that runs plots and get a full size template plotted.

OK I'll try and work on a couple of them today. If I can I'll post them then it's poll time!

Will do. I thought about putting it on 1 sheet that could be printed, but was thinking using the graph paper and putting match lines on different sheets would save a few cents. I guess doing it both ways would be better.

How did you run the air vent thingy to the box? (You know the thing that the Zoodad shoots the air in.)

I went to Lowes today. I think I am going to take that back about aluminum diamond plate. The little pieces (it would take 2-3) are $20 and the 4x4 (?) sheet was $100. That is a little high end for the development stages IDK if the Dynamat would look real classy on it either...

I've got a ton of pics of it in my gallery when it was out of the truck. I took as many as I could think of holding a tape measure to it for anyone who want to try this. I've been playing around with scrap pieces I had left over, but a 4' x 10' sheet of 24 ga. galv. runs me just under $30.

I made the sides and back out of 12" x 24" pieces and the back 12" x 13 1/2" pieces for the hems and bends, so we're talking about just over 5 sf of material. If you can find a local sheet metal shop you might be able to buy some "drops" pretty cheap.

Check large commercial roofing contractors, larger HVAC contractors, along with anyone advertising to be a sheet metal fabricator in your local yellow pages. It's kind of like finding that 4" piece of exhaust for the filter. Explain what you're doing and some might just give it to you. Others will charge a nominal fee.
