I was wondering how much power you would put to a stock t18 and d60 with 39.5's almost always on the street? i might get chrome moly rear shafts. I have money to get an engine and i dont know if i should get 600+ hp (545 and p51's with solid roller) or if i should go another direction with the engine and get something else with the money.
I would say get as much HP as you can, you can always upgrade the drivetrain later when you see what is going to need improvement. I can say from experience the stock rear 60 will not like 600 HP. I have broken them with 39.5 swampers and a stock 460 doing burnouts on pavement. Get the big HP and just drive somewhat sensibly, I don't think you will regret it!
yeah, im not going to be doing burnouts with the boggers. i just want something that will plant you back in the seat hard in a pick up....theres no truck around here on the street with real (not stock 454 chevy) 600 hp. i think i will regret putting any money in my engine then not going all out on it.
yeah I love those stock 454s with "600" Hp LMAO!
Are you looking at getting a crate motor, or piecing your stroker together? What is the plan? I have been slowly working on collecting parts and planning for my 429. Its going to be around 650 Hp before the 150 shot nos, according to desktop dyno. I try not to do bunouts with the boggers too much, but its so fun and easy sometimes I have to get it out of my system!
600HP is a motor you will have to keep a sharp eye on in the maintenance department. A rear axle upgrade, beefier driveshafts, traction bars, BETTER BRAKES, roll cage break out your wallet... IMO I think you should build your truck for 600HP first, then put the 600 HP motor in.
J,
do it! Dont waste your time or money getting rear shafts. I twist splines as is. I bought a set from moser and twisted them. I sent those back for exchange and twisted the new set as well. Now they wont warranty another set without upgrading to 35sp stuff. Id seriously consider building a D70 or sterling. Either of those will handle the horsepower and tires and laugh. 1410 driveshafts will almost be a must. If you have rear lift blocks make sure you do what is necessary to get rid of them.
Im looking at the same engine you are from Carl. Im sure you will love it but as with everything you have to pay if you want to play.
600 hp Huh? Plan on replacing/upgrading almost every part in your truck. When you take the HP and torque that motor will make and add in the high wieght of your truck, things will break and in a big expensive way. I speak purely from experience on this one. I've blown out axles, transmissions, u-joints, gears, lockers....etc. Build the truck to take more than you plan to put it through then add the big motor.
i figured u joints would go first, then axles, then the gears then eventually the tranny. its got all new disk brakes all around so that should be alright.
i just cant see spending all this money on a 400 hp or so engine and getting the parts to swap a 460 in and still only have 400 hp. and to get 400-450hp out of my 400 now id need to get chi heads or something equivalent. i do have aussies but i really want aluminum....
im almost thinking about just driving the 400 and maybe putting these heads on it and just run it till it blows. id like to get a 70-71 torino or 63 1/2 galaxie so maybe ill just keep hoarding my money until i figure out what i want to spend it on.
maybe i should just buy a house....dang, its harder than youd think having extra money.(no i wont give any away)
I would save a few more dollars and buy very soon, right before the housing market and interest rates pick back up. You can always piece meal your truck, but you cant piece meal your down payment on your house.
I'm curious to see what my 521 will do when it's complete. It has trickflow aluminum heads, forged pistons, smaller cam, edelbrock performer intake, 750CFM QuickFuel Carb for E85 since my compression is around 10:1 (not my original plan, but it's how it turned out), L&L chassis exit headers. I plan on running 35s, but this truck (77 F250 4x4), will solely be for highway driving and not off road. I plan upgrading all driveshafts right away and the axle components later.
I agree! Buy the house and worry about the hotrods later. After you buy the house, assuming you don't over motrgage yourself, you will be broke for about 2 years then it gets easier from there. Atleast then you can have as many trucks as you can fit on your property and wrench all you want.
