Wiring in a trailer brake controller?
Hi guys,
I'm looking at buying a Prodigy brake controller for my 1978 F350 SuperCab Campering Special. To hook it up I need to hook up 4 wires:
The black wire to a 12V + feed
The white wire to ground
The Blue wire to the 7-pin connector that hooks up to my trailer
The Red wire needs to hook up to the 12V "Brake Light" wire under the dash.
This is the wire I need to find. Does anybody know what the colour is of the "Brake Light" wire and where I could find it? Thanks in advance!

Most brakelight switches have two wires. one is hot all the time and the other is hot when the switch is activated sending juice to the brake lights. tap into the one that is only hot when brake switch is engaged. Use a tool called a wire hawk to determine which is which by probing the wire while operating the brake pedal by hand while your down there standing on your head

Most brake controllers are hydraulically actuated.
Is this one ?
Most trailers brake lights are wired from the rear of the truck/car spliced into T/S circuit. Not from the brake pedal
The Normal T/S circuit is over-ridden by brake lights.
The Trailer brake circuit should run directly back to the 7-pin connector from the brake controller under the dash not from the Brake light light switch.
I would think having the brake circuit on the brake light circuit would blow the fuse.
On these old trucks everything runs through the T/S switch.
On mine it is Power into the controller.. power out with 8-10 gauge wire to ensure they work properly.
You are wiring this to pull a trailer..correct ?
Are you sure this controller is for Old trucks and not for the newer trucks with the special Tow package ?

the brake lights only activate the controller the power for the brake come from the power wire

Uh no. The brakelight switch is what tells the controller to come on. In the instructions it will tell you to either use the factory harness for a newer truck or tap into the COLD side of the brake switch.

The cold side of the brake switch is ONE wire.
Basically there is power present on one wire of the brake switch.. then when the button pops out it closes the circuit and power continues on thru the TS switch,
If all that RED wire on the brake controller is, is a relay supply type circuit,, then it should work.BUT, If it is the main supply wire to the brakes it probably won't
All I saw on that Controller site was they were for 2005 trucks with the Tow/Haul feature.
The brake wire is either black/red or red/black.
Do you have cruise control ?
Here's the NON-cruise brake light switch.
