Ok, so i just bought a 400M with performance cam, 4bbl carb, and intake for $200. it runs strong but a little rough. i was told the spark plug on the drivers side, second one back, was "fouling". something about oil causing the plug not to fire. im not sure. the guy said that if i took off the heads i should be able to figure out whats wrong. this is where i need help. what kind of problem am i looking for? im new to the internal engine thing so if you could break the terms down i would appreciate it. thanks guys, any help is great.

Do a compression test on the engine with a compression guage you can buy at the auto parts store. It should have instructions on how to determine what's going on. If the compression is good, it may be a leaking intake manifold gasket.
i debated whether or not to add the M and figured that enough people on this board already say 400M, so i did it too.
Thanks for the tip Franklin, i'll check it out.

What I use to do if I had one cylinder that was fouling a plug was go one number hotter on that cylinder to help burn the oil that keeps fouling the plug. but if you have to tear into the motor I'd look for bad valve seal or rings. some where the oil is getting in and these are the only ways I know of .
