help with VIN

help with VIN
ok, ive been trying to decode my VIN but my code only has 11 characters. its right off the tag in the dashboard everywhere i look im told there are ALWAYS 17 characters. im puzzled. i dont know if my VIN can be used for evil on the internet but here it is if anyone can help. I know this is a truck site but I have a 400 in my car so i figured i could ask anyways.
VIN - 5G21S192246
Body - 65M
Color - 5YGU
Trim - LZ
Trans - U
Axle - 6
DSO - 5

17 digit VINs didn't start until the 80s, 1981 I believe. Other than that I can't be much more help. I don't know what kind of vehicle it is.

its a 1975 Ford Elite. some call it a Torino Elite, others a Gran Torino Elite.

You should go to www.google.com
and type in "FORD VIN DE-CODER "
And see what happens. :-)

VIN - 5G21S192246

The vin goes like this: the first digit is a 5 (75 year model)
G is the plant code (built in Chicago)
21 is the body type (not sure what though)
S is the engine code (400 2bl)
192246 is the vehicle production number (consecutive unit #)
Trans is U (C6)
Axle 6 (3.00 non locking rear)
DSO District Special Equipment Code (not sure what the 5 is)

was sent to the District that 5 represents.
The lowest number for a DSO I have on record is #11.
