Hey Prep/Fom
When you guys did those heater cores was it on A/C cars. My AC made is especially painful hence the whole weekend to complete the job.
AS for hood scoops it can be a pain to make them functional. If you come across a carbed early 80 stang they had a dual snorkel air cleaner that could be set up to run like a forced air set up on a truck and save cutting a hole in the hood. Then the scoop could be put on for looks only.
Hi Jeff, my 84 Mustang did have factory air as it was a Texas car. I didn`t remove the entire dash but instead I was able to slide the ac/heater unit out and the replacement back in. Not easy, lots of small cuts, scrapes, minor loss of blood with liberal amounts of some rather colour full language used....
My 83 Mustang 5.0 convertible has the factory dual snorkel air cleaner but I won`t mess with it as it`s totally stock, pristine and for sale.
Mine didnt have air. Maybe thats why it was fairly easy. I mean I shouldnt say it was easy, I had to take the whole dash out. But all in all it wasnt that bad.
Apparently taking the Mustang dash out is the right way of doing it. I didn`t know that so I somehow got it done without removing the entire dash, just loosened the dash off enough to pull passenger`s side mostly out of the way......It wasn`t fun but neither was the large labour repair estimate.
i replaced the core in the T/A i had. it was a 8 hour job... dash sitting on the seat of the car, after that it wasn't that bad. i thoroughly enjoyed doing the one in my '83
Well your Mustang was an older one and the whole dash system is a little different then the 87 style, maybe they are different that way?
Not really a whole lot of difference, none structurally.
I`ve see where the dashes have been swapped over from old style to newer. The whole ''Fox'' Mustang from 79 to 93 is totally interchangeable. There is some differences in trim though.
I guess the thread has been hijacked?
All this talk makes me want to get my 5.0 out. I'm snowed in so bad that I'll be lucky to get out my door this morning. Maybe I'll get the battery on the trickle charger and hope for the snow to be gone by April.
Next time which I hope is never maybe I can get my heater core change down in the single digits to compete with you fella's. It's definetly on my top 5 hated jobs with plenty of cuts and cursing.
