I did the heater core in my 5.0 and it took 23 hours to change. The whole darn weekend. I'm pretty sure ripping the engine out of a half ton would have been easier. In fact I know it is. I just find cars in general harder to work at. No frame, closer to the ground, rusted pillars or rust rear quarters. etc etc. Plus I don;t have a yard full of Mustangs to for with my yard full of trucks which makes parts harder to come by.
I did the heater core on my 87 mustang one time when it messed up and it did take awhile. No 23 hours though, I think the whole job took me like 6 hours. Still long enough though.
The same with my 84 Mustang heater core leak, I bought the car in Texas and the owner was quoted $600 which was deducted from the purchase price.
It took me about 2-3 hours, I was able to move the dash out of the way instead of removing it completely and $50 of parts exchange from a wrecker there.
Someone added that "factory" hood scoop (C9ZZ-16C630-C), it wasn't available till 1969.
I really like these fiberglass hood scoops Bill, I`ve got about 3 of them stashed away. They look great on a 67-72 F100 though I hate drilling the mounting bolt holes.
I think it would look great Sherm, it`s a very neat scoop for just about any full sized Ford/Mercury with a fairly flat hood.
Now I`m starting to wonder about putting one on the 92 F250.....
The early 80`s Mustang (83 GT?) also have a neat hood scoop. I only have one of them, it`s on a parts car. They`re not so easy to find any more unless you know where there are some as I don`t.
i've got a sawzall i've been thinking of getting another hood and trying to make a functional ram air system for the '83...somehow those cowl induction hoods seem like they'd look so much better...
Cut a hole in the hood?....Well not always, it depends on what vehicle. I bought a 65 Mustang like that once and ended up throwing that hood away.
So be careful, it`s a quick way to turn a good hood into instant junk!
The cowl induction hoods are the best way to go.
i think it could be done if you were really, really careful with marking it out and such. a good idea would be to mount the scoop before cutting the hood. then there's all the crossbracing to worry about. yep. better off with the pre formed cowl induction!!!
