Talking '56 cab & floor work

I searched but could not find what I was looking for so here goes....

when it comes time to repairing the cab on our '56, which wiill include the
corners, a bunch of floor, probably relocate the battery box, etc...

has anyone actually raised the floor to lower the cab?

can anyone explain to me (simply) what "Z-ing" a frame means?

I'll check back in a while after I get rid of the 8" of SNOW we got last night...

-Thanx...

Zing the frame, I z'ed the frame on my 51, cut the frame into just behind the front wheels, took rear section of frame dropping the top of frame rail down level with the bottom of the front section, a drop of 7 1/2 ", when you cut a plate to put frame together it looks like a big Z. weld into frame thus lowering the cab 7 1/2" closer to ground without suspension work making the ride execelent, pics in gallery of homade, name of 51 in progress.

Lowering the cab over the frame by raising the floor is called channeling. It used to be a popular practice on truck cabs to make them really low. They were usually run without fenders if the channel was severe. The 'Z'ing of a frame is where the rearmost portion of the frame is kicked up to make the rear end sit higher in relation to the body. This is usually done on cars though. I don't see how you could do it on a truck if you ran a pickup bed on it.

No need to channel an F100, the frame already sits well up into the cab. As for Z-ing an F100 frame, you can get as much drop as you need from just C-notching the frame. A "Z" will go up into the bed floor and will require additional work to raise the floor or add other mods. Is it your intent to slam your truck?

Check with Jason Thorbecke at Suicide Doors for rear suspension setups. He built a killer 4 link triangulated suspension for me with airbags, etc for not much dough. With just some C-notches I can get the running boards on the deck and still have plenty of suspension when acting like a truck... :~)
