351 C Exhaust manifolds

O.k. here's the deal. I have a 351 C in my 78 F-100 Custom 4x4. My passenger side exhaust manifold cracked, as i hear they're prone to do. Anyways, I got a set of 351 M exhaust manifolds, the driver's side bolted right up with no problems, however, the passenger side hug too close to the bellhousing (302 bellhousing) and couldn't be bolted up without grinding the manifold flange and moving the bolt holes and bending my exhaust to fit. Now would I have to find a stock set of 351 C exhaust manifolds? OR should I just go for some long tube headers and custom fit my duals? I'm more prone to go for the headers, but it's all a matter of money.

Are you sure that wasn't a Car Exhaust
Manifold you were fooling with?

The passenger side on a truck has to have a Truck Manifold on it.

They never put a 351c in a truck. You won't find a header that is made for your chassis with a 351c. Just as the 351m manifold hit the bellhousing, the 351m/400 header will hit too(been there done that). You apparently have a custom exhaust bent to fit 351c car manifolds. You can find another manifold to replace it, or start experimenting with car headers. Check with the sanderson people. They made block huggers for a 351c 4v (which won't fit your heads if they are 2v) when I checked a couple of years ago, but by now they may make a set for a 351c 2v (I am assuming this is what you have?). I used 1973 mustang 351c 2v headers on my old 53 pickup, and they fit good. But it wasn't 4x4 either.

Umm correct me if i'm wrong, but im pretty sure that 4v exhaust manifolds/headers will fit 2v heads... there is a lot of metal around the exhaust ports of the 2c heads, i doubt there'd be any overlap.

Well, I am guessing here too but, I thought the ports on the 4v where so big, that it has a different hole pattern for the bolts.

i know it's a car engine and they never made a Cleveland for a truck application. However, 351 M and 400 exhaust manifold's do fit to the head bolt pattern, i was just wondering if there is a difference between the 3 engines and if there is a different style of the manifolds that might angle away from the bellhousing about 1/2" because that's all i need for clearance.

Yes 4v clevo exhaust manifolds will fit the 2v heeds with the 4v exhaust manifolds will have bigger ports but this will not matter. The 2v exhaust manifolds wil not fit the 4v heads because they are to small.

I have a cleveland 2v in my 79 4x4, and I am currently using the manifolds that came on the engine. It is out of a 73 mustang. I have tried to put 4v headers on a 2v head, by mistake, it does not seal !! Although they will bolt up, the ports on the 4v header are so huge they overlap and are open on the spark plug side and blow exhaust all over you wires and burn them. I have been thinking of trying the headers for my mustang on the truck to see if they are useable but havent gotten to it yet. I would like to get headers on the truck but finding some to fit is a problem.

As tight as you can and one more turn.

well i found a set of 351 M Headers for 75 $, they've never been mounted. One of the tubes is a bit crushed and bent, but i have access to a grinder and a welder so that's a minor problem. I think i'm going to buy them and see if I can get them little buggers to fit. They don't have a reduced collector however, so would a local parts store have that? I know i'm going to have to highly modify my exhaust and do some major welding, but i can just imagine how it's going to sound if it all works! WET DREAM!

OK I have the answer to this question. Use a set of 351M headers and replace your standard starter with a High Torque mini starter. I have a 351C in my 1980 F150 4x4. I also have 3 sets of 351C manifolds. If you have any questions email me at getusum69@altavista.com. I can just about answer any question on putting a cleveland in a truck. Also the guy is right you can not use 4bbl headers on 2bbl heads.
