Hello all, I am a new owner of a 2000 Ex wit a v10 that had 62,000 on the meter. After putting 2000 miles on i noticed a ticking, that was gradually getting louder, from the exhaust, i figured no big deal, took it to an exhaust shop and they want three hundred dollars to fix, at least five studs broken. I searched and found a thread saying that the bolts on the manifold are known for breaking, but that's it. Does anyone have more info? how many have had and fixed this problem themselves?
Three-hundred bucks???? Man, that's cheap... If you're confident in the shop, go for it.!!!
You'll notice the noise much more in the cold... expansion & contraction of the metals... the early ford modulars had this nasty problem... my 99 F250 w/a 5.4 broke a few... I sold it before I had it fixed. I did some shopping around and $500 was the lowest quote... and that was a few years ago.
Get-er-done for $300... alot less agravation than DIY.
well just got back from shop, they went ahead and replaced all the studs an hex nutz, no extra charge on the ones that weren't broken just their practice to replace'em all or i'd be back to get those one fixed at a later date. it took 2.5 hrs and a total of 317.51
Very nice deal. Hey does anyone have input on the MBRP if I should go with stainless or aluminized? Being it is diesel and all the oil and such be exhausted all the time I dont think or could imagine the exhaust rusting from the insdie out. Other then that does it sound different. I have heard that the alumized sometimes ends up coming toyou after shipping with some dings in it or ends get pushed on and need to be opened again for install. Any advice? Sorry if I am highjacking this thread to another topic.
