I believe it covers the Blocker Beam which makes the Excursion more compatible to front end collisions with smaller cars, it prevents them from sliding under the Excursion. As far as removing it, in my opinion it won't look to good with a chunk of metal visible in the front of the vehicle.

prolly makes it slightly more aerodynamic in addition to hiding the blocker beam. (read down in the 6.4 forum about the job 1 versus job 2 airdam)

No real reason to move it as far as I can tell...

That is funny I have a 01 Wrangler Sport with only a 2 inch lift and 31s and if the top is up can’t get it over 80 on the free way if the top is down I can get it up about 85 or 90. With the top down it is not nearly as sketchy on the free way! And I get better MPGS in the Ex with the jeep on the trailer LOL! The jeep truly is a box on wheels.

I think it is ugly and not needed. As for removing the one currently on your vehicle I would say no for a few reasons. One is if you look behind it it is held with clips and bolted to 2 brackets at ends of blocker beam. So now you remove it you will see blocker beam ( maybe you could deal w that) but you will also see the brackets whcih woould stick out like sore thumbs. Now if you remove the backets then you will loose the capabilites of hlding up your blocker beam and I would not suggest doing that. If you were to get into an accident and you removed the blocker beam and someone got hurt do to you X sitting on them you could (potentially) be liable due to the fact you altered youyr veihicle safetly equipment. I recently had to cut that plastic and bracket to fit my new tires because I went with minmal backspacing on my new rims .
