Ok, Im just about to purchase a Rize 6" quadlink lit, for 2006 F350. Im trying to decide on my rear setup. I was planning on getting Rize's 5" tapered blocks because of the price (166.50$), but now they are saying I have to worry about axle wrap and they recommend a rear leaf spring pack (450$). I tow a 28' trailer about 6 times a year, some light to moderate offroading, but mostly a highway truck, but dont want to sacrifice any offroad capability. How bad do I need to worry about axle wrap and what do you suspension guys advise? I would like to get Rizes traction bars, but too rich for my blood (946$).
I have a 6" lift with a block lift on the rear and I have no issues with axle wrap. My truck has been on some nasty trails too, and handled it like a champ. Towing is no problem either. I don't have traction bars.
Axle wrap is the tendency of the axle to rotate in the opposite direction of the tires when power is applied (for every acion there is an opposite and equal reaction).
When you increase the space between the axle and the spring you are also increasing the leverage that the axle has on the spring, like getting a longer wrench to turn a bolt.
In this case I think Rize knows what they are talking about. I would follow their recommendations, especially since you do tow.
So when lifted trucks have vibration and stuff on take off, is that a symptom of axle wrap?
Not necessarily.
My truck had the take-off shudder that I thought at first was axle wrap. Turns out it wasn't. If your truck has a 2 piece rear driveshaft, you must shim the carrier bearing down with a lift in order to properly line up both driveshafts. If you don't, you get the vibrations when taking off from a stop. Once I got the driveshafts lined up properly, all vibrations disappeared. My truck has been through the test too... drag racing, towing, offroading, etc. On a 6" lift with blocks in the rear, you shouldn't need traction bars. A stock F-350 has 4" blocks.

Thanks, DB
Emmagator,
You will need at least 6" blocks if you would like to achieve a level stance. $450 will buy you ProComp rear springs which IMO would be a total waist of the Rize system. If you are going to opt for rear springs I would highly suggest you opt for Deavers which will complement the system rather than harshen it.
