I would go with a lower rear end, 4:10 or 4:30. I don't believe a 3:55 is even available. The 3:73 is as high as they go. Also, I would go with 4WD.
2WD diesels are very easy to stick, and with a trailer behind, it will be even worse.
Everything else sounds great.
Yeah i dont think a 3.55 gear ratio will be a good towing ratio i dont even think it is available eithe most are 3.73 or 4.10 and there is 4.30 those would be better for towing even the 4.10 would do well pullin 15k.... well 4x4 thats you to decide
I believe I read that 3:55 was the new standard for job 3 build trucks. But I agree it's not the best choice for pulling 15k. On the other hand, the 4:10 trucks are getting pretty bad mileage. So if you are sensitive to fuel cost, you might want to stick with the 3:55 or compromise at 3:73 (if they are even available).
Personally, I would not go with a 4 x 2 truck. Even if you don't think you will need it, you just don't see many SD's that are not 4 x 4 and at resale time you'll get your money back.
I would order the snow plow package. That will get you upgraded springs, heavy duty alternator, and an enhanced cooling fan control. Even though you don't plow (I don't either) it's a good package. The ride will be just a little higher in the front, and a little rougher.
I would agree in purchasing new truck to get 4X4 even if it's for a resale point. When towing a 5th wheel there are times you may need it. The 4:10 would be the better choice for the rear axle
I agree, select a different gear ratio no matter what is offered.
IMO: drop the traction control and get 4x4 with LS.
add F350, DRW, 4.10 or 4.30LS, camper package, tow mirrors, upfitters. I like having 4x4, manual hubs and brake controller. Verify trailer weight (tongue weight for GAWR verification).
Is your 15K estimate based on a empty trailer?
There are 5 MTW ratings between 15,700 to 18,700lbs for the F250 and F350. If it is 15K you may be pretty close to the GCWR with the 3.73 or 4.10 gears at 23K (truck, trailer, gear, fuel, water, wife dog). You'll get a larger buffer with 4.30's at 27K.
