Axle Wrap???
Axle Wrap???
Ok, Im just about to purchase a Rize 6" quadlink lit, for 2006 F350. Im trying to decide on my rear setup. I was planning on getting Rize's 5" tapered blocks because of the price (166.50$), but now they are saying I have to worry about axle wrap and they recommend a rear leaf spring pack (450$). I tow a 28' trailer about 6 times a year, some light to moderate offroading, but mostly a highway truck, but dont want to sacrifice any offroad capability. How bad do I need to worry about axle wrap and what do you suspension guys advise? I would like to get Rizes traction bars, but too rich for my blood (946$).
Thanks, DB

i would recomend some type of traction bars. i had a 8 inch lift put on my 07 harley and 8 times outa 10 when i took off from a stop i thought that something was busting off my truck, i could hear it with window up and loud music. a week later i had the guy that does all my susp. work on my truck make some customised trac bars.. if you go with trac bars i would recomend only one place of attachment on the axle, where as 2 is way more rough of a ride....the ride is more rough after trac bars.....for me it was looks over ride.....
You can get some axle wrap with lift blocks. The trucks do have some axle wrap already but the stiffer springs help stop it. If you run big tires you can see more axle wrap I run a seperate link or third member on my jeep I use offroad with 40" tires to help stop axle wrap. Basically it's like a A-frame that's attached to the rear axle by using 2-Heim joints or rubber bushings then it comes forward and is attached using 1-heim joint. The front attachment is hooked to a shackle style mount so it can move slightly forward or backward as your suspension cycles. This does stop the axle wrap. in my jeep.

naw, the vibrations are from things that wern't done correctly when lifted, (alignment, driveshaft not shimmed, ect) axle wrap will give you a wheel hop when your hard on it from a dead stop with out a load, and with weight to keep the tires down,.... well that just aint good and is hard on everything. Id go with the leafs instead of the blocks.
If your getting a vibration or shudder only when you take off it's probally axle wrap. I've watched rear axles rotate on take off or under a bind. If you have a vibration all the time your u-joints on your rear driveshaft might be out of phase and causing a vibration. If you don't have a CV joint on the rear driveshaft then the u-joint yokes should be 2 degrees negative from being parallel so when your pinion angle rotates up as you take off they are parallel. If you have a CV joint the the rear yoke on your pinion should be facing the the center of the CV joint.
I have 5" blocks in the rear of my '03 f250 6.0/CC/LB/ stock diesel, on a hard acceleration or if I have the arb locked I'll feel the rear springs wrap. Go for the spring pack if your thinking about towing anything heavy.
axle wrap
you can get the trac bars installed after your lift if you notice axle wrap. pro comp makes some that sell for about 400. you can test your truck out by putting it in park and while moving the back tire watch your leaf springs...they will look like they are poping when doing this most of the time...they did it on my 250...now on a 350 it might not because the leaf package is heavier.
