Hello all from Colorado! I've been looking for a while but this is my first couple of posts. I've got a '61 Unibody SWB that originally had a 223/3-speed. Yesterday I scored a 292 for $50 (!) but it has a 4-speed bellhousing and I want to keep my three on the tree. Anyone got a 3-speed bell for a 292? Also, does anyone need a good running 223 and a Y-block 4-speed bellhousing for next to nothing? Whenever I get a good deal I like to pass along my good fortune. You know, it's a Karma thing. Any help would be great. Thanks-Mark
I have a 292 Y block that has a three speed. I want to change to a four speed. I have a four speed but it is attached to a six. I need a four speed to 292 y block bell housing.
292 four speed bellhousing accepts a pre 65 three speed without modifications.
223 four speed bellhousing accepts a pre 65 three speed without modifications.
A 223 bell is similar to a 292 however the two do not interchange.
By four speed i mean a truck transmission, not a car toploader.
Car toploaders will fit either if they are a small pattern.
You also need the correct front cradle for the front crossmember.
The 223 mounts to the top of the front crossmember and the 292 requires a welded on bracket.
