Smokin' 262 / 223 swap questions---1964 F100---New member
Hi, I'm a new member with a '64 F100. This site has been the greatest resource for me. Thanks. I have a few questions about replacing my tired, smoking '64 262. I have a t98 mated to it. My truck originally came with a 292 / 3 on the tree. I want to swap in a '61 223 and use my t98. Can I use the coil, mechanical fuel pump, pulleys, alternator, starter, bellhousing and fan from my 262? Will I need new motor mounts? What other problems might I experience? Any help would be appreciated.
Have you ever driven a 223? even for a light 1/2 ton truck, a stock 223 is underpowered if you want to go much over 55 MPH IMO. Was it me, I would just rebuild the 262 with a set of cast rings (just hone the bores) and maybe new valve guides/hardened seats.
I don't have the skills to rebuild it myself. The lowest quote I had was $3,700. I'll switch out my $100 Craigslist 223 and see if it works for me. If it's too underpowered for my needs, I'll start saving for the 262 rebuild.
Any idea if I'll need new motor mounts?
Sean, sometimes if you can look up the parts you mentioned online, get the part numbers for each (223 & 262) to see if they match. Must be the same part make and model of course. I think I read over at Fordsix web site all the differences between the two. But X2 on what Redneck said.
