That depends on the block. If it will take a +0.050 overbore the 390 pistons drop right in. If you can't do that you're stuck with something else. The easiest would be to find a set of flattops for a 300. They are out there somewhere, but I don't remember who makes them. Custom pistons are also a possibility and might prove to be cheaper and easier than anything else in the long run.
I shoulda did the 390 piston swap when I did mine, but I talked to Silver here about a month to late. Anyways I was looking into it agian, I know once b4 I had stumbled upon flat-tops for a 300 but they weren't cheap, at all! The 390's were a much better deal, my only problem was I already went .060" over, I am debating if I should try .070" over and use 390 .020" over pistons, I could not find a .010" over for em, guess I didn't really expect to. Anyways do some searching on the internet, I have found them b4, maybe start w/ clifford, otherwise now it's bugging me, I'll look for em to, if I find em I'll let you know.
Ok, the only pre made piston I could find is at www.venolia.com (no price though), other then that bill miller will make you anything you want, just search the name and "piston", but after reading a extenive amount of posts in the fordsix forums it looks like most ppl when talking about flat-tops are just referring to an FE block piston. Well I tried, I thought at one time I found some somewhere with prices but they've disapeared or else I'm thinking of the giant price jump from .060" over to .080" over, which are also out there.
