Theft Deterrant
Scott, Glen and Thomas: You would probably have to remove the fuse panel to get at the ground wire. Which is something I havent done and most people are'nt willing to do. Are the connections on the 303 relay standard blade connections? If so, then you could pull the relay out of the fuse panel and remote mount it under the dash. Reconnect the relay to the fuse panel using wires with a crimp-on male spade connector on one end and female spade connector on the other. Just a thought.
Does anyone have a pic of this relay and a short explaination of what it does and where it might be? I too have a 2002 but its a 350 but it should be in the same place. Thanks for any hints....Dave
Excursions have a PATS system that has an anti-theft light on the panel that brightly flashes "THEFT".
I incorporated that factory light into my "disabler" system. If anybody's interested in how I did it,
http://www.springerpop.net/F350/disabler.html
will take you there.
It isn't easy to put together, but it's easy and effective to use.

That seems like a good idea. I was just searching around on the net and came across that idea. Just another perspective.

I believe the '99s are the same as the 2000's, wiring-wise, but I had to put in SOME kind of disclaimer. Even if something changed, it would only be a wire color or location of a relay. The stuff's still there in later models, too, even though relay and fuse locations are somewhat different.
Unless you had access to the wiring diagrams for your specific truck, and knew how to use them, I wouldn't guarantee that things would turn out successful for everybody.
My design is just easy and almost goof-proof for me to use. Everybody else's milage may vary. :-))

, when they retailed around $2500.
Your exchange rates about 90% so I assume 90% of those prices might be close.
Obviously most didn't read the website, it is a tracker - but it is ALSO a remote disable device.
Your mobile phone gives you access to a whole menu of commands - from disabling the engine, to remotely downloading the entire tracklog of where the vehicle has been.
Why would you want that?
Well lets say the tracklog after the vehicle is stolen stops at 5 places.
You obtain those addresses from the moving maps and inform the police & they cross reference them with their crime reports.
Address 1 has reported a burglary / break & enter
Address 2 has reported same
Address 3 is of a known fence (receiver of stolen goods)
Address 4 is a Gas station with CCTV (you have a time and location so police retrive video footage of the theif bying smokes with some proceeds of his crime at that same timelog).
Address 5 is of a guy whose drivers license photo, matches the CCTV footage - dropped in at home to give momma his night earnings.
Address 6 is where he dumped your vehicle and you tracked / recovered it!
What I can tell you all is a simple switch won't solve crimes the way a black box track log recorder will!
Hire car co's use them - did you REALLY only do the 200 free miles or did you disconnect the speedo cable and reconnect it before you brought it back? Did you really only stay on the blacktop so you didn't need the more expensive offroad insurance for that 4wd you hired, or did you go thru a few rivers and the ocean on the weekend fishing trip?
They download the tracklog an hour before your dueback by mobile phone - they know how far you've been and WHERE you have been and - they have already charged your crediot card the FULL amount!
You can argue all you like - the blackbox tracklog SAYS where you have been and when & shows it on a map!
Company cars also - don't think the boss will know if your goofin off down at the beach instead a working, think again!
More and more these things are getting installed into vehicles - and likely as not - you don't know it's in there - thats the whole point!
Want to keep tabs on your kids...in that new car you just bought them?
They don't need to know it is in there - it will ring you when the car goes overspeed, and - if you want too - you can disable the engine BEFORE they get to 100mph and kill themselves and a few innocents along with them...
Unless you read the website and understand the technology and it's capabilities...well - you might sleep easy with a hidden toggle switch / kill switch, but really - it's not going to ring you as your cars being towed away by a thief, is it? - nor is it going to enable you to track & recover said vehicle.
Most folks live in this fantasy world of it will never happen to me.
Fantasy number 2 - my insurance will cover it!
People like that will never buy a tracking / disable / alarm system...they are lifes losers - they are happy in their ignorance and good luck too them..
They are usually the very guys who think nothing of spending many 1000's on their big wheels and lift kits - go fast chips, exhuast stacks etc etc, its all about "image" - the very thing that makes their trucks into prime theft targets for all the mods / accessories on them!
Without those guys - the life of a thief would be hard pressed to get a good days work! We need them types - to keep the thieves busy and leave the rest of us alone.
Lets face it, if the technologies available for less than the cost of MOST of the mods commonly performed, and we don't availal ourselves of it - then we are living in fantasy land and have only ourselves to blame when the worst happens.
Most of these units are sold to folks who have lost a vehicle- but moreso of late - machinery operators losing skid steer loaders, back hoe diggers and the like from work sites.
I have no sympathy these days for those who are victims of such theft - the deterents are all available, they aren't that dear - and in many cases your insurer actually gives you a rebate on your premums, some cases enough to pay the unit off over 5 or so years - just for having one!
To not have one in that circumstance is just plain dumb.
Heck what would I know - I was just in the security industry for many years trying to protect peoples belongings!
The best thing about those trackers is no ongoing monitoring fees - they are self monitored - not like a LOT of alarms designed to tie you into a long term security company contract to respond to alarms.
I used to track my own boat realtime on a laptop with wireless internet card.....just like having a chartplotter on board...you can do the same with a vehicle - or if your a company owner with a whole fleet if you want.
We once used a micro track battery operated version of ezo track to bust a building site theft ring - installed it into a hot water service at the factory and let it get delivered and stolen over the weekend.
Ended up being the plumbers son who was ringleader, would read dads list of where he had to start work monday - go around tot he building sites and steal the hot water services (gas ovens etc) and sell them at a bar to his mates for cheap rates!
The father was in on it, - he would go to the worksite Monday morning - report the appliance missing to the building contractor, book a 4 hours minimum callout fee - then go to the house of who the son had sold the unit too and get paid to install the stolen unit - so in effect they were getting the price of the water service, a callout fee, and an installation fee, a neat little scam that ran for 2 years and cost over $200K for the insurer before they contracted us to put a stop to it!
Like I said - you can sleep happy with your $2 toggle switch - but if a theif REALLY wants your truck and hauls it away on the back of a tow truck - exactly what are you going to do again?
Cheers

Are you are still in the business of selling these? This reads like an advertisement for them.
