I was also thinking...if anyone has done a free fix such as this one, but attached so some type of remote..if its possible.

oh, i see what you mean. The easiest way to do that without too much trouble is installing a kill switch activated by a relay tied to your door lock. That way when the door lock (either manually or with the FOB), the kill switch is activated and deactivated when unlocked.

I support David on this flashing LED idea. We had a thread several months back about this very same topic and it made me a little parnoid. I already had my toggle switch which was a comfort but I wanted to add a visual deterant. That's where my dash mounted Super Bright red flashing LED came into play, which I got from my local electronics store(I've seen them on Ebay as well). I wired it up to a Bosch relay to where it only comes on when the truck is off. Fake? YES! But will it deter a would-be thief? Hopefully!

You would need to wire in a second relay to sense the truck is running to feed or not to feed the kill switch relay. Otherwise you risk it activating the kill switch when the truck locks the doors at 5mph.

That is true Chris. I just gave a rough idea. I thought about doing this on mine, but I rarely use it and trust the alarm kill switch in most instances.

Yeah, this whole topic would'nt even be a problem if the OEM horn honker was an actual alarm.

Thanks guys. I am not even close to being knowledgable enough with this stuff to attempt this myself without step-by-step instructions...I'll definitely have to employ some help. I installed a CD player in a truck once, I'm lucky I lived through the experience.

However, I think it's a fantastic idea...in my area of town, trucks are more likely to get stolen out of a parking lot than from a driveway, which is why I was thinking more along the lines of a remote-activated kill switch. The dash switch is good but of course it would be the ONE time you forgot to flip that switch that it would get stolen.

Would a kill switch (toggle) have to be rated for a certain minimum amperage to cut out the 303 relay ?

not if your cutting the ground.

You can always get a 12v wireless switch and use that in the setup Chris mentioned, but then you will need to carry a 2nd remote for that unless you can find a programmable one.

It's not difficult to set it up with the door locks. It will just take a little time to setup correctly. The setup will vary from truck to truck though since they are not all 100% identical. We are here to answer questions of course.

Personally, I use my Diesel Turbo Lifesaver, its has an anti-theft toggle switch that I mounted in a custom location.

Chris, do you know how would I go about finding the ground wire for that relay?

That makes three Texas boys interested in locating the ground! Can you get your head back behind the panel? I have never tried. Does it have to be the ground? Why can't we put a switch in the positive?

my $.02:

black wires are usually ground in US of A so they are easy to find.

Ground wires generally has less issues with current and arcing, and even if the thief hotwires the relay (not hard) it still won't work.

My rig has been broken into twice here in San Antonio...so I guess I've been very lucky that they didn't take the truck when they cleaned me out.

I'm glad this thread came along...as I've gotten sidetracked with other mod's/fixes/upgrades and have forgotten perhaps the most important of all.

Speaking of flashing lights...when we spent the nite down in Corpus after a football game, I removed fuse #13 or #15, whichever one that doesn't allow the truck to start...then placed my Bluetooth earpiece with the flashing blue light by the speedometer. I knew they couldn't drive my rig away, but I hoped to deter a break-in altogether. Don't know if it worked or not...but we drove Big Red home.

Nuthing beats EziTrak.

Its not the cheapest system - theres lots of cheaper systems available - if you want cheap buy something else - Lo Jack springs to mind - but if you want the BEST then EziTrak is the answer.

I've been using one for the last couple years and you can't beat it

It is all the things it does that Lo Jack etc doesnt that makes the difference.

Disable the engine from your modile phone, after the trucks stolen if you like, or track your vehicle via moving maps on your mobile phone/ laptop etc.

Have your vehicle ring you if it is driven "overspeed" (that you set the advise speed).

Download a complete "black box" track log of where a vehicles been, put one in your wifes vehicle - is she having an affair or not?...you'll know if you can track her vehhicle real time or after the fact.

Theres Lo Jacks and theres Ezi Traks - the two shouldn't be confused - they are as different as chalk and cheese.

Even track your truck if it's towed away.

Read the website if you want the best otherwise buy something cheap.

Cheers
How much does a system like that cost? Probably over one or two thousand dollars plus some work under the hood right?
