i too have ridden in a wildman tuned truck, they are really incredible. never been in a dp tuned truck, but everyone that has one love s them as well.
i would be curious to see the differences on the dyno as well, and i agree it needs to be on the same truck, and do it as a stock truck then each setting
That's my problem, I was just curious if others had that issue. I've gotten a hold of him once out of at least 8+ times I've called him. Left numerous messages and I think I got one call back to voicemail. Emailing him is hit-or-miss, sometimes he'll reply, sometimes he doesn't.
When I did talk to him, he was great to work with. I put single shot injectors in my truck and he reburned my chip to run them as well as improve the settings. Two of the four settings weren't working (assuming due to the PCM), but the 125hp setting just rocked the truck, I was extremely impressed. I purchased a newer PCM and just sent the chip back to him for a reburn and can't even get a hold of him to see if he received it.
Having the reburns done for free is great. But his communication is breaking the deal for me. I'm half-way tempted to cut my losses and give DP a call and see what they can do.
Well after visiting Tony last week during the live tuning I can understand why he has not been able to answere all his phone calls and e-mails. He recently moved from outside Oklahoma City to Fort Worth Texas. In addition, he and his 3 kids & wife have been hit hard with the flu that has been going around and they were all still recovering when we took over his neighborhood for the live tunning weekend. Even with all the sick kids & moving stress his wife opened thier house to welcome all that showed and the neighbors even helped with the folks that showed up with kids to help keep them entertained. So, I would keep this in mind while he his moving, sick & running a business. After seeing how he treats his customers and how his family & neighbors step up to the plate to help out in any situation I am impressed. His new neighbors must really like him if he just moved there and are willing to help his family out in such a manner. I can understand the fustration involved when trying to get in contact with a business and not recieving voice confirmation or e-mails, but Tony is not one to ask for help and is the type of person to carry the weight on his own shoulders. He will come through in the end and will always do the right thing. In my experience the past two years he is a man of integrity and honor, but I wouldn't expect any less from a man who served in the the US Military.
one thing i am realy disappointed with and would have sold me to TW if i would have done more research is that DP doesnt offer free re-burns. I mean come on, $30 a tune for a reburn?
other than that i love the DP and customer service is great

$30/tune!?! I thought it was only like $50 for the whole thing. Don't forget about $10-15 every time you have to UPS it. That stuff adds up and takes away from REAL mod money.

I don't argue anything you say, even just my short visit with him a couple of weeks ago I'll agree with you that he is a good man. I would just appreciate a call back saying he's busy and will get to it as soon as he can, even let me know he's still swamped with sick kids(which he did when we talked), just moved; I'm very considerate of those things, as long as I can know those things are going on.
I did receive an email from him today(Sunday)and will get it back Tuesday. The live tuning session would be nice to do that I'd drive the 12 hours to Ft. Worth to do it.
I'll follow up with how it works when I get it. I'm really looking forward to seeing how it runs!

If the cost of things is the biggest determining factor in what product you purchase, maybe DP isn't right for you. Before you make that decision, consider the following.
1. DPT is a "for profit" business that Jody and Diane depend on as their sole source of income.
2. Simply put, "Time is Money". Jody spends hours and hours and hours of time working on constantly making his tunes better. If you add propane, a "built" trans or some other change to your truck that requires different tuning...not only do you get the programming changes you've requested (which he has to spend time on) when you get a reburn, but you get whatever else he has released since your last file. In some cases, the updates are minor...in others they are more significant.
3. TW is a nice guy with a good customer following...but he's also got a nice Government job to pay his bills and support his family. I have nothing against this, I operated ITP on the side for 3 years before quitting my day job to run the company full time. I can tell you from experience that the 2 situations are completely different...and there are things I would "give away" before that I wouldn't now simply because I don't have another income to fall back on.
Look...I don't really care who you buy from or what your reasons are for making the purchase decision you make. It just bugs me that some people are busting DPTs ***** over charging for something they put a TON of time and effort into. DPT has invested a VERY LARGE sum of money in the best equipment possible to do what they do. Cylinder Pressure Testing equipment from the top name in the business and factory level diagnostic tools, not to mention what they've paid to get their own chips, switches and such...it's all big money stuff. Add to that the tremendous amount of experience Jody has after live tuning many many trucks all over the country...you get what you pay for, plain and simple. If you're not willing to pay for it, there will always be someone else cheaper to get it from...but don't rag on DPT for wanting to get paid for the time, effort and experience they bring to the table.
Very well put Dennis. If someone is concerned about spending money they should buy with value in mind and not just price. Customer service is a huge part of value.
Good post, Dennis. One thing you mentioned that I didn't think about is the F5 Switch instead of the rotary type. The rotary type gets the job done no doubt, but the F5 holds more tunes and has more of a "cool factor". As I said, I probably would've went with Tony had I been here when I started down the PMS path, but I definitely don't regret going with Jody's tuner at all!! And the F5 switch is something to consider -- especially the no-start capability. When I get mine back, I'll have No-Start, Stock, Lope Idle, 80E, 120R, and 140Extreme. I may have them drop a tow tune in there as well -- I don't really tow hardly at all, but it would be good to have just in case. That's seven different tunes. Some extra versatility you won't get with TW. Just some more info for those considering how to proceed. I don't think you can go wrong either way, it just depends what you want.

A couple of times a year there's a get together at the track outside Oklahoma City. Tony and a bunch of folks from the Dallas area, Kansas & St. Louis drive down for the weekend and hit the track, do some mods, etc..... I'll send you a PM when the events pop up - going to OKC should cut a couple of hours off your trip....

WHOA big cheese
im not complaining that its not free. my point is at 30/tune for a reburn, im practically buying a whole new chip over again
Not really. The chip costs $280 when initially purchased...and you pay $45/program for standard programs. That price is less than the original per program charge and you're not buying the hardware again. You're paying for the labor to modify the files and put them on the chip.
Also, that is not a fixed price. If you come back with heavy customization that requires significantly more work, the price is higher. There are also situations where a "flat fee" is charged instead of a "per program"...it really depends on what the modifications were and why it's being reflashed. It's very fair...more work = more cost.

FWIW,
I have dealt with TW, BTS and ITP and all three are not the fastest at returning a phone call. People with a good business are normally busy because they are dealing with customers. There isn't always enough time in the day to do things.
Regaurdless of what TW does for a job, how many members do you think have two jobs? I do and I know others do too!!!
Pick your pony and ride it.
TDP offers alot and takes care of his customers just like BTS.
OH by the way I like my TDP chip. And I had a DP-Tuner chip.
