As my manual states I should be able to replace the battery in the door keypad on my 04 F250. I want to get the keypad light to work again. However in the process of trying to take it apart it looks to be a sealed unit. I spoke with an aquantance of mine who works for Ford. He said Ford has had alot of problems with this part. He said that the whole device would need to be replaced. Any one have any suggestions. The manual says one thing and I being told another story.
I have the Ford Accessories add-on keyless entry unit and I replaced the battery in mine a couple months ago. It does come apart but you have to be REALLY careful or you'll tear the rubber membrane that the buttons are connected to. I used the biggest flat screwdriver that I could fit in the slot on the right side and gently pryed on it until it finally popped apart. After that is when you have to be careful pulling the rubber part outta there.
does the OEM have a battery?
mine came with the truck and i've never had to replace a battery....thought it was hard wired......it's not the add on though.

If your truck came from the factory with the keypad then it is hardwired and there are no batteries in it.
If the keypad was added at the dealership then it is a stick on keypad that runs on batteries and is programmed the same way that the remote control keyfobs are. You can find them on ebay for sale if you are looking to add it to your truck as long as your truck has the remote control door locks.
