Just purchased a 2013 f250, and it unfortunately does not have the keypad entry device. Ive had it on all my other trucks and find it to be great. I found a couple old threads on wireless aftermarket keypads...but batteries aren't replacable. Anyone with experience with these????? Are factory installs wired direct????? How long do batteries last????? Thx to all
Ford has two types of 5 button door mounted keypads they sold for the Super Duties.
One is built in flush mounted, that requires cutting a hole in the door skin.
The other is a surface mounted, battery powered, wireless module. It sticks out from the door about 3/4". The battery is replaceable. Ford sold this version in two ways. The first way was as a factory option in some of the Super Duties of about 10 years ago, before Ford finally stepped it up to a built in version like the Excursions always had. The second way was a Ford Accessory, self installed or dealer installed option.
I've read that people had problems with the surface mount battery operated ones, but I don't remember exactly what the problems were. Worth a search before deciding.
I had ford install their keypad as an accessory on my XLT. It was only $100 installed. As far as I know it doesn't take a battery? I never really though about this but it doesn't look big enough to take a battery. Maybe they drilled a hole in the door under it and hard wired it?
I have the ford accessory key pad on my 02 F350 I installed it my self it was a simple install I've had it on my truck for 10 years and have never had to change the battery yet
