On my way out tonight about half way there the O/D light started flashing and the trans wasnt shifting right, so I put the DP-Tuner back to stock because I didnt know what was goin on but I new it couldnt be good. This helped for a little bit then the trans wouldnt shift right or when it was suposed to, and I was driving very cautious at this point. I got to the university of Maryland and it was getting worse when I was driving around. after the truck sat for a little while it seem to shift pretty close to normal but the O/D light was still flashing on the drive home(about 30 min), What does that light me?
truck is a 2003 f350 96000 miles stock trans (as far as I know, im the 2nd owner) 2in lift with 35's ( was on when i bought the truck or else it would have been a 4 1/2 in lol) and the dptuner has been on since christmas day.
That's just about the exact same mileage at which my first transmission had the exact same symptoms. You might as well head for a transmission shop cuz if you don't you're going to end up paying for a tow any day now.
sounds like it could be the VSS on the rear axel..does the speedo still work right??
yea the speedo still works fine

Thats what I was thinking...and hopeing wasnt the problem.
Now that I'm on my 3rd tranny I've since learned that running any sort of performance chip you will get about 100k out of a transmission. I'm right on schedule. 96k then 106k. The first tranny did a lot more towing than the 2nd.

Ive only put about 3000 miles on the tranny with the tuner, But I kind of figured Id fry it with the tuner.
Now I just got to figuere out If I can get enough funds for a BTS trans...
I would also like a BTS, but along with not having the 4k the chances of me living long enough to make the investment worth while are slim to none. 10 years ago I would have went for it in a heartbeat, but back then I could have afforded it too.
Check for stored codes. Mine did that to me once, and when I read the codes, I got P1780 - Trans Ctrl Switch (O/D Ctrl) Out of Self Test Range. I had the "normal" ICP uncontrollable and some others, but that one tells me it's probably my O/D switch starting to act up. The wires in the shift handle can get chafed and start shorting intermittently. I haven't seen that since, but I haven't taken the shift handle off yet either. Which is my next job...
I got P1780 - Trans Ctrl Switch (O/D Ctrl) Out of Self Test Range.
That code means you didn't press the OD OFF button during self test. That's the only way self test can tell if the switch works, by having it in each state during the test. It doesn't mean there is anything wrong unless you did press the switch while the test was running.
Thanks Mark. That was the ONLY tranny code I saw after the OD light was flashing. For consistency, here are the other ones I got:
Active:
P0478: Exh Press Ctrl Valve High
P0571: Cruise Ctrl/Brake Switch A Circuit Malfunction
Stored:
1241: ICP Uncontrollable
0236: Turbo Boost Sens. A Range/Malfunction
1142: Fuel Restriction (I got a bad batch of fuel that clogged my Pre-pump filter)
1780: Trans Crtl Switch (O/D Ctrl) Out of self test range
When would I have to have pressed the OD switch during a self test? I never ran any self tests. And I have since reset the PCM several times so I know it wasn't something the dealer did. In fact, I just reset it yesterday when I re-did the connectors on my battery terminals so I won't be able to see what was in there before.
What do you think is causing these symptoms and the OD flash intermittently? I REALLY hope the trans isn't about to go. Not something I want to hear.
Oh, and sorry for the hijack!!
EDIT: No idea on the 0571 code. No problems with the brakes or cruise. Anyone have a suggestion on that one?

Yea hopefully Ill be around for a couple more yrs, since im only 18 now lol. If I can afford it Im sure thats the way Ill be going, but 4k is alot of money for me...
EDIT: on my way to work today I was driving my parents dodge charger (06 or 07) and the trans started not shifting right in that thing and then not shiftting into any gear at all and the check engine light came on......Im not having good luck with trans....thats 2 in less than 24hrs that havent worked properly for me
Mine was doing the same thing a couple of years ago.. it was the VSS on the top of the rear end.. Got the sensor from Napa, P/N 530780 (they call it a ABS sensor), $10.49..easy to install.. I have read some posts that you might have to change out the rear end fluid as well.. (metal flakes affecting the sensor)..
