I haven't explored the options out there a lot, but from what I gather 4" is a good size for most. I don't tow often, but when I do throw something in the back or behind the truck it's usually heavy, would there be much benefit to going to 5"? Also, what is the general opinion on straight pipe vs. muffler? I'm leery of going straight pipe, because I don't want the truck to be too loud either when warming up in the morning (don't want to wake my daughters up) or when cruising down the freeway. Right now I'm leaning toward a 4" system with muffler similar to the MBRP, but I'd really like to hear folks' opinions. Also, if you can point me to places to get good deals that would be great- I'd like to be under $350 for a full system, turbo back. Oh, and NO rear exits, I hate those- side exit behind the rear wheels is what I'd like.
There is ALWAYS (sort of) a LACK of benifit from 5". That being said it sounds bad azz. There is almost never a performance increase in 5" until you get over 500 hp. Do you plan on that!?!
I got my ss Silverline of eBay for $400 delivered. Geoff#### or something like that. He also calls himself ETR Performance. His auctions are all OBO's. MKO has an aluminized system that is in your price range. He is on eBay, too. Pinnicle Power Exhaust has some damn good stuff too so you may want to look into that. IDR what the price was.
You should find what you're looking for under budget...
I like my 4" just fine -- but I do want to try it with a bypass pipe just to see if I like it. I've heard straight piped trucks -- not as loud as a gasser by any means. I don't think the idle/warm-up is any louder in fact. It makes a big difference at WOT though.

No, I don't plan on over 500 horse, at most full exhaust/6637/DP Tuner/Stage 1's.
Was your Silverline SS a straight pipe? For $400 that seems like a bargain. However, I did check out that MKO web site and they had a complete system for super cheap, but no clickie for more info so I may call them tomorrow.
I just ordered a MagnaFlow 4" Stainless Steel system for $350.00 delivered. It was the cheapest SS system with a 4" downpipe I could find. MagnaFlow seems to have a very good rep.
Nice find Neil- how long ago did you order? I'd be interested to see what you think. FWIW, I sent an email to MKO, I'll post back on what they have to tell me.
I got the MKO 4" setup straight piped and love it. When my truck kicks into high idle on cold mornings, it's probably too loud, and by that I mean for my neighbors, I think it sounds awesome!!
Rolling Big Power ( http://www.rollingbigpower.com )has a awesome looking 4" blacked out system for the 6.4 liter. Too bad they don't offer it for the 7.3 or the 6.0 liter.
I ordered it Thursday. It won't be installed until mid March. I need to have some maintenance (pulsating brakes, coolant change, exhaust checked for leaks, fuel filter, etc.) done as well as the exhaust install and gauges. I have to save up for all of it.

I'll post my findings after the install.
Neil
Dude, I told you before...do it yourself. All the stuff (idk about the brakes) above is pretty easy. I am a power flush guy myself on the coolant, but FTE guys don't trust their maintainence to anyone though.
Yes, my Silverline came w a muffler. You can get an MBRP for that money, too.
Neil- I agree, if you have the time and a decent spot to work do the work yourself! If you hit a snag you've got a ton of people on here who will help you out. I'm pulling my front end apart this weekend hopefully, front rotors need turned and possibly doing the balljoints on one side. If you want, send your exhaust to me and I'll "test" it out for you!
I used to do most if not all of my own work. I simply do not have the time right now. Squeezing in oil changes is the best I can do. I'd rather pay to get it done than the parts sit around for months before they are put to good use. Time is not something I have extra amount of right now.

I saw that last night too, great deal! MKO said $300 for an aluminized 4" with muffler, $400 for stainless 4" with muffler and a tip, and that's out the door. Now I've gotta decide between gauges and an exhaust!

Now that is a tough choice. I won't call you out on that one :P
Unless you really want to see how much your temps went down from stock to 4" I would do the exhaust first. Idk if I made more power with the exhaust, but I did notice A LOT more throttle responce. All of a sudden the truck started responding like a gasser! Before it was hit gas, pause, A TON of noise, pause, go! Now it just goes when you mash it!
