I guess I should apologize for attempting to persuade you to use the more reliable 3 wire setup. I know how many of you guys hate electrical problems so I was hoping to spare you the trouble of having them. I've blown up my fair share of these alternators on our farm tractors. On the one tractor we had to install a voltage gauge to monitor the voltage. That GM alternator swings from 15v to 13v depending on if the radio and A/C is on. Due to the voltage swing is messes up the automatic round baler control box so all baling has to be done by the manual controls. Where as our 65 M-350 and 69 C-750 are still happily running the original factory 3 wire alts.
Maybe you should try and see it from my view? I was raised where if something needed to be fixed, it was the proper way no ifs and buts about it. If we could improve it in the process we did. When I explain things I use hard facts and don't sugar coat it, but written text does not carry tone well so you assume I'm coming off a know it all. Look at Mil1ion's posts, he uses a similar way of explaining things and had to put in his signature that his posts are just statements. The thing I'm trying to say is Knowledge isn't free, if you tried to ask a surgeon about to to perform a surgery, a plumber on how to plumb your house or even an professional racecar engine builder on engine building tips. They won't tell you didly squat and may even laugh at you. So I guess I'm sorry for trying to share some of my knowledge I spent hard earned money to know.
For sure, but who am I to be the judge if they can do it or not. They can judge for themselves, give it a shot, if it dont work, then they can come back to me and pay for it
look how much electrical am i actually using in my 49. For **** sakes it even has vacum wipers. If we wanted to go with praticality we wouldn't be running Flatheads.
Maybe try to look at this from my point of view? If me or Chris are looking for technical information we lean to ask people with comon sense and expierence with Flatheads in what they need balacned to whats shows best and not from some kid who ripped a couple out and hacked them apart. I'm sorry that we are turning most of your knowledge (lol) down. I'll stick to asking a plumber how to plumb and maybe I'll ask a REAL mechanic how to fix.
you know i sure miss it when you stayed on the 48-60 forum, Ive had enough of this bull**** dont expect to be seeing meon this ****ing site anymore. Ive had it with your know-it-allism. If we wanted to know we would ****ing ask, otherwise keep it to yourself.
I think I might have to take your advice limit/ stop this thing help out my blood pressure I hear shifters has a few nice Ford/ International trucks but could use more....
Well Chris I stopped in at Jitney again today. He sold me on a "new age" head gasket for the flattie it seals better handling expansion due to engine heat. Also I think I could VERY well be going with a 4 inch crank from a 255 and a set of headers but first I'll drive it a little prior to a decsion before I drop 600 bucks.
no a new set for the 49. I'm gonna have to put the 51 off for a week or 2 gonna work on Chris's truck this weekend then work on the 69 and 49 next week. but defiently next week just got to put the filter on and add fluids maybe I'll give you a call next week if I happen to get a hour or 2 free to get the 51 started. hopefully lol
