ABS Light

Alright so I replaced my wheel bearing/hub assembly, and now my ABS light is on. I tried disconnecting the negative battery cable to reset it, and it went off and then today it's back on again. I have a 2003 Ford F150 SuperCrew 4x4 with the 5.4L V6, and it's got about 154,000 miles on it. Has anyone else had this problem after changing it?

Check to see if you damaged (or forgot to reconnect) the ABS sensor on the hub you were working on.

Inspect the hub for a damaged or improperly assembled tone ring, especially if it was a Chinese-made replacement part.

The ABS system cannot be reset by disconnecting the battery. You have to repair the fault and it will, in most but not all cases reset itself the next time it does a POST.

No I hooked up the ABS connector, and I actually disconnected it today and reconnected it. How can you tell if it's damaged? Well I did get the cheapest hub assembly for now, so it may have been made in China.

This may sound silly but check your brake fluid level. My 98's abs light would go on anytime the brake fluid was low.

Low brake fluid will trigger the red BRAKE light and the yellow ABS light.

Yeah I checed the brake fluid level is completely full. It may need changed though cause it looks awful black looking. I figured I would just let it go, and not have the ABS. No big deal right?

is there an adjustment for the wheel speed sensor? I dont have front abs on my 98, but a lot of abs equipped trucks i work on have a sensor that can be move closer or further to the tone ring. Did your new hub come equipped with the tone ring? Did you set your speed sensor correctly? I push my speed sensors all the way up against the tone ring and then back them out a 1/8 inch, make sure that you spin the wheel to make sure that there is no interference. You can use a dvom to check the AC voltage and see if your sensors are working. The faster you spin your wheels (by hand) the higher the voltage you will see.

Alright slowr w/o blowr you lost me. I have no idea if there is an adjustment for the wheel speed sensor. Where exactly would the tone ring be? The new hub came equipped with a new abs sensor. I actually never messed with the speed sensor. Where exactly are the speed sensors located?

The tone ring is the sprocket looking piece that the speed sensor is using to create ac power. its teeth are very even and when they pass over a magnet ( speed sensor) it creates electricity. Sometimes the speed sensors are able to be adjusted so that you can make sure that your magnet is close enough to the tone ring. Its just like an electical motor.

The speed sensors are located somewhere on the arc of the tone ring so that they can pick up signal. I dont have abs on my truck in the front or i could tell you exactly where. The best thing to do would be to look for two lines going to your brake caliper. One is your hydraulic hose, the other will be much smaller in diameter and will take you to the speed sensor.
