hello all, question I know now that i need to buy a new rad mine is leaking pretty bad, the originall on my 2.9 is pretty dinky so I was wondering if I can make it fit would it hurt to put an older style rad in for more cooling and capacity?
The early 2.8 3 core brass radiator has a different mounting system that the one core 2.9 aluminum radiator. So unless you are in to fab work this is a bad choice.
The 2 core 4.0 radiator is the best option. They made a 1 core also. I had the 1 core in my 94 Explorer. I put a new 2 core and new 2 core fan shroud in my 88 BII when we put the C-5/4 and doubler in it. When the engine wasn't up to long road trips in my 88 BII and the M5OD went bad in my 94 X we put the C-5/4, doubler, and 2 core radiator from the 88 in the 94.
So I would say to go with the newer 2 core 91-94 4.0 radiator from the Ranger/Explorer. May have to trim hoses a bit. And it'd be best to get the 4.0 fan shroud or at least pay close attention to how your old one fits.
Course this depends on what you do and do with your BII. My trucks need to be daily drivers and run 10 hour days at 70 mph and I don't like um to have trouble out in Colorado and Utah when I'm on one of my trips. Someone else might use there BII differently.
i put a 91 new 91 explorer radiator from advance auto in my b2. cured
all over heat problems. directly bolted in. hoses fit as well. didn't
change fan shrouds or any thing else.
