Every LP conversion I've ever seen got fewer MPG's than gasoline. That in itself should tell you something. If LP were more efficient, you'd see them on the road. LP burns cleaner, but it's not more efficient.
Yup, I'm 100% sure on that because it also had an Iron C/J intake on it as well. Its a PI 428 with LP in a 1970 Ford Custom!!! I bought the car from the original Detective that had it since new! When he retired from the department in Cal, they gave him the car. Years later, He was to old to drive it anymore.
I dont have the car now but my Uncle has the intake and the LP stuff went elsewhere. I'll dig up some pics of it.
a guy i trust mentioned that low compression engine's won't benefit from lp at all-usually worse, but he stressed that if you build an engine with high comp (another words don't run gasoline thru it anymore it'll grenade) than the less efficient of the lp would be compensated and sometimes it'd run better than a comparable gas motor. propane is much cheaper than gas in my area around 30-40% is the norm so it's definitly worth looking into. like i said i know a couple guys to went lp in the 80's but weren't impressed and went back to gasoline. one thing is for sure i saw this w/my own 2 eyes, i KNOW lp can have power-guy in high school had a 79 f150 up on 44's and a 400m/c6/205 all rebuilt on lp and i watched him howl both back tires for more than a block drifting sideways and LET OFF to avoid hitting the fence at the end of the smoking area and i'll bet it was revving a solid 5 grand. that's no trucker story either. i heard ppl say it had ***** but i never really listened or cared until i saw that. i also heard he beat a camaro in a drag race, i didn't see it but i now believe it. don't know what mufflers it had but it sounded nice and deep idling around town.
I can take a 6 cylinder in any pickup and smoke the tires that long. It has nothing to do with the power output, but rather the lack of traction (empty pickup beds weigh nothing). Just got back from a 5 day drive from Louisiana up to N.E. Wyoming and back thru S. Dakota, Nebraska, Kansas and OK and saw several FE powered water well pumps. I wish I'd had the time to make stops to check them all out.....................................
i have a 300 six believe of it won't do what this thing did. neither would my gas 77 shortbox stepside 400m 2wd 4spd which i thought held it's own quite well w/wide pro tracs tires
