Truck Coughing ?
My dad has a 03 with the 4.9 engine. The truck is completely stock except for a K&N Intake System. Lately it has been burping (coughing) from what sounds to be the intake system. It only does this when it is below 30 degrees outside, and it only does it at idle or when you are coming down from high rpm to low rpm. It seems to do it the worst when you are sitting at idle! He has taken it to two seperate dealerships, one of which actually witnessed it doing it, but no one has any ideas. 
Anyone else out there heard of anything like this? Looking for ideas!!

mine did the same thing...your problem is likely the IAC (intake air control) it is located on top of the intake next to the throttle body, looks like a small can it is bolted to the intake with (2) 8 or 10mm bolts, there is also a plug with two wires attached to it. take this off very easy to do, cant mess it up... then clean out with carb cleaner or something like then spray WD-40 inside once the cleaner dries up.

Thanks Very Much for the reply! That will be the first thing we check. You would think that the Ford Dealerships he's been to would of checked that, but you never know anymore!!

I would strongly suggest simply replacing the IAC rather than cleaning it. I cleaned and it worked for a while, but then started to fail again. Last thing you want is the truck not to start one day when you're in a rush to get somewhere. It's a $50-$60 part that is well worth the peace of mind.
