Overdrive options?
I have an E4OD case that I cleaned and painted preparing to rebuild it (one of these days--yea right
) I will try to take a pic of it along side a AOD for reference, provided one of you guys give me a bump start on how to post in the thumbnails.Just upload the pictures to your Gallery. Then just copy and paste the Image Code for the picture from the Gallery to the thread where you want to post it.
. Dont recall where or why I heard it, but I think I was under the impression that you had to get the resolution of the pic way down or it would display too big. I generally take pics in fairly high res so that I can then zoom in on closeups and retain decent resolution (older Minolta 4mp w/10 optical zoom). I was thinking that you needed to reformat pic for around 200X200, especially to email. Am I all wrong? This isnt a hijack, its going to the subject of the thread, which is about trannys, but I also want to post some pics comparing a 5.8 OEM exaust manifold to an SVO SS mustang shorty. Somewhere there is a thread about truck exaust systems, guess I better get busy.
The main preferences i had for an AOD was Overdrive as first thing, and lock-up as second thing.
When the AOD is build to last, we need to drop the lock-up converter, and put a normal, solid shaft in the AOD. So, constant slip, approx. 10% needless lost. (there goes the advantage over a C6..)
When build to last, we need to modify the AOD, put soma harsh material in it, wich cost' a lot of green also.
Then we have to make it fit with an adapter plate, and have it work onto the engine with the TV instead of vacuum.
Then i see no advantage in comparisation with a gear Vendors, wich just bolts on. I even see a preference for the gear vendors then, as it's a unit build to last, no real mod's needed.
The real main thing that dissapoints me about the AOD, is that i have to ditch the lock-up converter when i want to make it rigid.
Also, the 4R70W has a different lock up style, and is able to have lock up in 2nd, 3r, and OD gear, where the AOD only has lockup in OD.
It's a pitty about the size of the E4OD, as it's a perfect unit for what i want....
I'm curious on how the pictures show.
Also like to see a website where all dimensions are written down, so i can measure one and another.
I'm a tad crazy, i know, but currently i'm thinking about saving my money until one and another comes in reach, and cut the floor to make space for the E4OD....

Here is the size limitarion.
Maximum image file size is 3145728 bytes. Image type may be JPG/JPEG, GIF or PNG.
Not trying to talk you out of or into anything. Its your money, as long as you dont spend mine, go for whatever you wish. We just suggest you consider that you may past the "point of diminishing returns".
Tx for the help on the pics. I surfed last nite on this site and found that I should have looked a little bit before asking worn out questions
Maybe I can get some pics posted. Still have a question or 2, but will ask on the help thread, Tx again.
Have you considered a Tremec 5 speed? It can be purchased with several optional OD ratios. Bell housings are available. You will need to fabricate or retrofit clutch linkage. A hydraulic clutch should not be that difficult. It is possible that a clutch setup from a Ford Sedan will work.
A manual?????????????????????????????????????????

Dan, this IS concidered as cursing...

I have my eye on a GV unit, wich comes from a NP208 transfer case. now, i see these listed by Ford from 1980 to 1989
My lincoln with C6 is from '79...
Any info greatly appreciated.

I considered GV for my F100, but dropped the idea due to cost and the reduction of the driveshaft length. The GV unit adds quite a bit of length to a C6. A short drive shaft is prone to U-Joint problems.
Since i drive cars with manuals all my life, and since 3 years an automatic, i cannot see why the manual is even invented some day...

I don'n want a manual ever anymore, and certainly not in a lincoln

Thanks for thinking with me though, higly appreciated!.
