Compression on 400m

Hey yall, just tested the compression on my motor yesterday and got 150 psi per cylinder. How does that sound for a 400 and should I just stick with the heads already on it and port bore em or what? Any suggestions?

Thanks

That compression sounds good. It should be nearly the same on all cylinders.

What do you want from the motor?
What has been done already?

Hey danlee, can i reduce compression by using a double head gasket, is it recomendable? oR maybe by using a thicker gasket? is there any available?

sorry for the hijacking ....

its okay but curious, why would ya want to lower the compression unless want to run lower octane fuel?

You can purchase copper head gaskets in a variety of thicknesses. Just Google 'copper head gaskets'.

Thanx danlee, well lilman, the thing is i have the original heads milled by 0.025" and tmi´s 9.5 flat tops pistons getting me a comp ratio of 10.1:1 so i will have to use a stout camshaft to even run premium and that sux, by using a gasket lets say .050 i could get 9.7;1 whcihc would be pump friendly with an acceptalbe comp cam xe274h....

I was talkin to Tim at TMI, and he said that if you're running aluminum heads, you could get away with 10 to 10.5:1 with pump gas. Maybe I was wrong on my understanding of what he was talking about. That, or you're running the iron heads, then that could be an issue due to lack of temperature dissipation.

My understanding of the finer points of the compression equation is still somewhat lacking.

yeah if i had aluminium heads, but im running iron cast and for an even more shocking worse situation open chambers(dont know who came up with this dumb idea), im lucky to even go by 9.5:1 on pump, so i need a big cam....

o ok. was wonderin. im probably gonna hit the same problem with my motor, high compression and horsepower and still tryin to run pump gas through it. i just hope able to bypass that problem somehow.

hmmm it would be great to be able to run a high scr like that and i thought the solution was to use a big cam, but i wanna have a load of torque... i ran several dyno simulators and came across that anything bigger than lets say the comp cam xe274h will make your torque move too high iin the rpm range with no significant horses improvement due to the small port 2v heads im using, so, I will look for a thicker head gasket so i can run a smaller cam without pinging problemss....i want something around 0.050" than the standard 0.040" type. i should go from 10.1:1 to 9.7:1 and be able to run the xe274h on pùmp gas......

my theory and opinion....
