Need some help in diagnosing

No mods. Just ARP studs. Recently my truck gave a code (p0470). Faulty Exhaust Back Pressure Sensor. I replaced it. The old one was filled with carbon. The tube that holds the sensor was dirty as well (just used air to clean it out) Cleared the code. Now when I moderately apply the go pedal I feel as if the engine drops and regains, drop and regain RPM. My scan gauge confirms this by dropping about (from 2100 to 1700 rpm's). On the open highway the boost goes to 30psi on a WOT. I think I noticed a drop and back up in boost while doing this. No codes as of today. I am thinking turbo soot build up. I have been idling more then normal these days. I use PS white bottle in the winter and grey in the summer on every fill up.
I have 213,000KLM or 130,000mile on her.

Can anyone give me some advice as to what to look for on my AE or my Scan Gauge?

Compare the MAP, BARO and EBP at KOEO, they should be within .5 PSI of one another. Next check and clean the hose and hose nipple at the intake manifold for the MAP sensor which is located just above the evaporator housing on the passenger side and is connected to the passenger side intake manifold via a rubber hose. It also wouldn't be a bad idea to remove and clean the IAT2 sensor, it is located toward the drivers side front of the intake manifold near the #2 injector electrical conector.

X2 compare the sensors. Should be .5- 1.5 psi at KOEO

KOER @ idle the EBP shouldn't be above 16 psi.

Watch the MAF volts and compare to throttle pedal volts. Should match relatively close.

Clean the EBP tube with a weed eater line or something along those lines to push out the gunk. Clean the MAP fitting and IAT2 sensor and make sure the MAP rubber hose isn't cracked.

When you say "Clean the EBP tube with a weed eater line or something along those lines to push out the gunk.". Do I remove the tube then clean? Or do I do it in place?

Thanks

What ever is easier for you. It just needs to be clear for the sensor to function correctly.

Just push whatever thru the tube to clear it out. Compressed air alone likely doesn't do all that much to clean the gunk.

OK I cleaned my EGR valve replaced the O rings and gasket. Cleaned out he EBP tube (EBP sensor replaced). Reading are.
KOEO
BAR=14.4,
EBP=12.9,
MAP=14.5
KOER
BAR=14.4,
EBP=14.7,
MAP=14.5

The picture below, just to clarify is my IAT2 sensor? (drivers side next to the Fuel filter).
I pulled it out and cleaned the sensor. But I ordered another because it was caked with a carbon build up.

After all this the truck still surges and the turbo seams to jump as well. Another code came up as well. P0402. Ant the p0470 has not come back yet.

I use OEM filters and T6 motor oil. The fuel filters where done about 2000klms ago. I did have to purchase diesel fuel in the city. (not my regular place). Tomorrow I will replace the fuel filters and install my new IAT2 censor.

Any suggestions? I need to have this truck running without issues by next month, My son and I winter camp up in Northern Ontario. No assistance there or cell service.

Thanks

WTF???

12.9 psi at KOEO is way too low. You should be seeing 14.5 give or take. You say you replaced the EBP sensor? If so, it looks as though the new sensor is defective. Unplug your EBP sensor connector with your live data readings up. You should see it switch to 6.34 psi if I recall correctly when it's unplugged. If so, that will immediately rule out the EBP sensor sensor circuit, which is only one of the three wires. The other two, are spliced in with the ICP sensor as well as the EGR valve, amongst things. At KOER engine idle, your EBP should increase with MAP to about 16 psi. BARO psi will and should stay constant throughout KOEO and KOER.

just finished the truck. After replacing the new (bad) EBP sensor with the old but cleaned sensor and replacing the IAT2 sensor. On the first run to warm fully up (round town). Truck seems to run just like new.
Now on KOEO the
BAR=14.3
EBP=14.5
MAP=14.5
I will take it on a highway maybe tonight or in the morning. Let everyone know his it runs.
Thanks to all the helped.

John

Today took her out for a good run. Ran the turbo good and long varied the speed. Quite a few WOT to get the turbo spinning. Seems to be running like new. The boost ran steady unto 29.2psi and without hesitation. Looks good. Now I have a new bad EBP sensor without a receipt. How can I check to see what's happening with it?

Thanks, Mike for the bad EBP number reply and any everyone else for suggesting I check for…...

Anytime John.

And let your thread be the perfect testament to the fact that NEW parts, doesn't necessarily mean GOOD. I've seen it, and been through it more than my share of times too, pulling my hair out on situations where the end result was a bad-out-of-box NEW part.
