With cracks in metal drilling a hole in the crack where it is starting in fresh metal will prevent it from spreading. filling the crack with metal even with a torch and brazing rod if you are good at working with metal will keep the panel strong and flex with the rest of the panel. Of course for just cosmetic appearances bondo will do but I would leave it instead of doing a bondo job. I think there was a tsb for this problem do a search or at the top of the page it should be in the recall tsb tab.

When I had my windshield replaced a couple of years ago. The guy replacing it, mentioned that he saw a crack on the passenger side of the cab. He put some of the sealant he was using on it. To me it appears to have worked really well.
