rain gutter drip rail

I am not sure which term is the correct to use but the rail that runs above the door and down the back side of it is rusted away on my 69 f-100. I grinded the rust out and I basically have no rail from the middle of the door down to the back side. Does anyone know if this piece is sold anywhere or am I going to have to find a sheet metal wizard to make it for me? If you look real close it is a seperate piece of metal just tacked to the cab so I would think that some place that sells panels would carry this. Any help would be appreciated!

Chief - welcome to FTE. I found the following thread in the 1967 to 1972 forum. Sounds like you can get the rails, but looks to be a real pain. You may want to check with the guys in that forum as to where they got theirs and how to install it.

Thanks for looking that up for me, but they are talking about the trim that goes on over the drip rail. I am actually needing the sheet metal drip rail itself. The truck had set for years with leaves and stuff piled on top of the roof and it rusted the drip rail out to where there was nothing left.
Thanks in advance.

It didn't sound exactly like the same thing, but I thought it would give you a direction on who to ask.

You may want to post this same question in that forum. Not many of those guys venture to this one. Could get your answer sooner.

I'm in a similar situation. I haven't ground out the rust yet, as I'm rather sure that I'll be left without anything when I'm done. I may just grind it out and fill it with epoxy if I can't find a better solution.

the bad news is there is a lot of panels coming together in this area. my best guess would be blast it, see what you have left, maybe roll a anew piece and weld it in. this area is real suceptible to perforation, usually on the roof itself. the caulk joint fails, and water gets trapped, eventually falling to your floorboards, taking eveything else with it. i wonder if a guy couldn't weld in a top of a good cab?

My suggestion would be to grind it off it's in that bad of shape, and use a welder to fill it in. Personally I'd rather have that smooth rounded look than have the drip rail there anyway. This is assuming of course that grinding it away doesn't compromise the integrity of the top. But the area is so small I can't see how it would. I've read where car customizers regularly do this on other vehicles, I don't see why it wouldn't work on a truck.

Good luck,
Ron

just went out and looked at mine. if there was enough steel left, a guy could maybe grind it off and seam weld and finish it.
