'97 transmission flush

'97 transmission flush
My son has a '97 F150. I need to know how to tell what transmission is in his truck and what are the flush procedures for it. Would it be a E40 and would the '99 and up flush procedure (like I do my 4R100) work on this truck? Does it take Merco/Dextron III ?

Look at the blue tag in the driver's door jamb. Under TR will be either a U or an E. U is 4R70W and E is E4OD. Both now use MERCON V fluid. Ford has discontinued MERCON fluid.
The flush procedure will work for either trans.

Thank you very much for the info. I'll check it out when he comes over later today.
I can almost do the 99 & up procedure with my eyes closed so that should make it real easy.
